ST1100

Yup, bought a used one.
Only put a few hundred miles on it so far.
Nice for 2 up riding.
The hard bags are the shit!
And it is black!!!
If Momma likes this bike, there will probably be a ST1300 in the garage next spring :-)

For many years I wanted an ST1100, but wasn't quite ready to make the change from my 89 ZX10. I wasn't in a position to go "touring." Last yeat I bought a black 04 ZX10, just to have 2 10s, and while it was very exciting in an explosive/violent kind of way (and by far the best looking big-bore - as one guy said "it looks like Satan's own motorcycle!"), it was just too much for the street where I live (flat, straight, no curves). I couldn't even pass a car without wheelying past! So, 3 weeks ago I traded the new 10 for an FJR1300, and I love it. Lots of motor, "hard bags are the shit!" as stated above, shaft drive - I've already put more miles on it than I did on the 10 in 14 months. Whenever I got off the 10, I was relieved- that I didn't get arrested!! Talk about making a middle-aged, common sense family man go stooopid!!

So, if you got a black ST11, it must be the 90 model, if I remember correctly. It still looks like a great bike. A friend of mine has one that he has used to set cross-Canada records on (a little over 59 hours, Vancouver to Halifax). He has over 200,000 miles on it with 1 electrical-related failure somewhere over the 150.000 mile mark. But, technology marches on, and when it came for a big ST, I went for the Yamaha - newer design, FI, etc. I skipped the ST13 because of less motor than the Yam, linked brakes which I don't want, and most of all - the looks. The ST 13 looks like a giant scooter/Jetson kind of thing. So, enjoy the ST11. I'm sure it will last much longer than you are willing to keep it! And, it looks better than the ST13, at least in my opinion.

My ST is a first year bike, a 1990. It is slighly broke in, the odo is showing 199842 . at the moment.
2 owners before me, both of them local guys.
The original owner had to sell the bike 2 years ago.
His alzhiemers desease was progressing and his wife wouldn't let him make any more runs to the "Keys" (Spokane to Key West was his favorite run).
He was 84 at that time! He was a long distance rider, winning some award back in 1987 for the longest distance something or another.
The ST displays the license plate frame he won for that event.(not won on the ST of course).
He keep 2 notebooks of documentation on the bike and never had any failures. ( I suppose its now ready to start sucking money-mine!)
The 2nd owner had it for 2 years, only putting on 10000 miles, then selling it when he bought a Valkerie Tour.
Now the ST is in my posession, giving the wife and I an introduction into "MammaHauling".
I like the FJR, a friend has an 04, nice bike. Wife likes the passenger accomidations of ESTEE 13 better, so if we move up, the Honda is what she wants to be seated on.
I still have my 12R and Z1000, so I guess she gets to have the pick on the "MammaHauler"
The only problem I have with the bike is that it cruises at 85 or so, 70 seems to be to slow, and 55, feels like it isnt moving.
Guess that is why the bike has been labled "vanilla".
I'd look at a new Conniezzr1300 IF they build one, but I really doubt that Kawi will ever build a 200k+ mile bike that doesnt need 3-4 rebuilds to get there. Oh well.
