'95 FLHTC vs '05 FLHTCU

...my fantasy: should I do about $3K worth of mods (cam, exhaust, porting the heads, ignition) and enjoy yhe shit outta this low-milage older rig?...or should I go crazy-wild and get this brand-spankin'-new e '05 FLHTCU (ScreamingEagle 95-inch, 6-speed, reprogram computer, assorted HD bolt-on goodies, radar detector, alarm) for $34K OTD?...I'm really starting to think and feel that post-AMF HDs are a blast to own and ride!!!!

Go new, the engine, trans, frame, technology is truly improved over the 95. FLHTC. The 05 ultra is nice. If it doesn't have an oil cooler on it and if its hot where you are, install one. Also, the 05 will throw off alot more heat at you than the evo due to the 50%+ increase in fin cooling surface. Just remember, H-D will not hold there value as well as the evo did because of supply and demand!

Tough choice. Nothing like a new bike. But the '05 with the SE 95", etc., won't hold a candle to a $3k mod engine EVO. No chance. So power-wise, you're modded 1995 could be 25 hp over the 2005 "stocker". And of course you won't be forever in debt ($34k....). You also won't lose a nickel on the resale value of your 1995 with the mods.

So..... if it was me; no doubt. Put some dough into your 1995. But..... if money was not the object, I'd buy the new one and do the same mods!

...thanks for the thoughtful replies...yeah, I'm thinkin' I should mod the '95 to my personal liking (paint, bling, gps/mps/xfm, etc.) at less than half the cost of that 6-speed/95-inch '05...hey KB!...maybe I should stop by on the way to my fiance's house and bring you lunch (King TourPak carries lotsa sandwiches and iced-beverages) and shoot the breeze sometime before mid-June before I go crazy wild with my annual summer work-fest???....I'd like to pick your brain more about this V-Twin when you're not busy...

...thanks for the input, zx23rr!...oil-cooler is next on the list....

You're always welcome to stop by anytime. Not sure how my Aussie Cattledog will react to your German smells..... But it should be interesting.
