WAKE IT UP!!!

...all kidding aside, what's a good and relatively economical way to wake up a carb'd 1995 HD big-inch Evo engine?...while additional horsepower is always welcomed, I'm really interested in additional torque to help this '95 ElectraGLideClassic beast move along...hey, I'm riding it as intended (easy cruising with a heavy load which includes me, my lady, and some gear)...and don't plan any stoplight-to-stoplight drags against any bigger-inch V-twins, V-fours, triples, in-line fours, Toyota Echos, or Turbo Volvos either...I just want it to move along better than it does now...especially on the uphills

Air cleaner kit, jet kit and screamin eagles or touring mufflers set up correctly. If you cam it, it usually kills too much bottom end. Expect about a 10% decrease in fuel economy!

...as it turns out the bike has a Screaming Eagle exhaust system and is otherwise stock...no K&N as its prior owner was told by the original owner...soooo...gonna do the SE ignition module and breather/jet kit and a couple of different simple mods...it'll be ready by tomorrow evening...these mods should wake it up and mitigate the 2500~3000rpm stumble and low-speed stall...I can Harley wait!!!

when getting the exhaust you need the air-breather kit & jet kit or it will have holes everywhere unless you are at 2000 plus feet. Of course this only applies with carbs and not EFI. Of course the evo has limits as far as inches go. You have to split cases to get a nice power boost -ie-89 inch strocker. This is where the new twin cam shines, 95 inches with just a top lifted off.
Have fun, and watch out for those wheelies!!!!!!

...I think I'll keep at 80" for the next year...I'm adding an oil cooler, a cam in the 225~235 range, and an aux. cooling fan next..

Because it is a bagger, I would keep the timing of the cam mild. H-D has a 203 grind and a 204. Use the 203 so to maintain low end, or up compression with the 204. I don't remember where the 225-235 cams compare to the 203-204 cams. Oil cooler is great idea.

You wuss.... . Hurt yourself on a real bike, then want to power-up the hog. Makes sense....

Hey, hope you are doing well! Don't waste your money on those cams, with the mods you have now (or don't have....). When you're ready to play, drop in the 95" kit. It's way easy and will really wake it up with the right exhaust. Go with a real grind on the cams like something from Crane, HSR40 or 42 Mikuni Carb & Air Cleaner, Comp-u-Fire ignition or something to that affect. Edlebrock heads work well with some clean-up, or I can work magic on your stock heads for less.

If you want some help or need the engine put together, let me know. I can get you 103 - 107 hp at the rear wheel, with about the same # in tq with 95 inches. And it will live for a very long time. Your probably putting out 60 - 68 hp now, which is probably about all you can handle at the moment anyway........ When do we get started!!!!

...we did a breather kit, fliuds change, new plugs, rejetted, and the dual-spark SE ignition last night...made the bike feel about 50lbs lighter...you're right KB...this is all I can handle for now ...gonna do the oil cooler and maybe an exhaust on the next round...this is fun!...looks so much easier to work on without all that plastic body work and trying to get under things with my monkey hands...floorboards are my friend

My friend who rides a Harley swears by this.To improve up -hill acceleration in particular. First you purchase a crossbow witha teather attachment for the arrow. Then you mount a magnet on the arrow tip. Then all you have to do is to shoot the magnetic arrow at the back of anything from a mini-van to a struggling uphill semi.....results are amazing!!!.My friend has doubled his uphill pace !!!and all for about 250.00
