Sport Bike North West 2005

Date is set for August 25th-28th 2005.

It would be great to see some of the members here attend.
Dino and I have had a great time there both years.

I know some of you guys think that the promoter of this event is stepping on Owen's toes. I don't think he has/had any desire to do that. He just wants to have another event for us sport bike riders.

Looks like SBN is the same time, bummer.

People bitched about the weather this year so he moved it.
Oh Well,

I would have preferred the second weekend as this year was and I emailed him and told him so right after this years event.

Being realistic, I doubt very much if the same date has much affect on either events participation level. I don't think that there were any attendees at both events this year, and only me last year. And we all know I don't count, lol.

LOL! SBW had a great turnout again. SBNW from what I've heard frome 2 attendees is boring and bloody expensive.

Bitch about the weather? Ha Ha ha.

Bill, from Sound Rider Magazine used to come to SBW for years.
One year he asked me to put together an event for him in the US.
I respectfully declined as I had enough on my plate.
I was a little put out that he couldn't have come up with his own name .......
still they say imitation is the best form of flattery.

Seriously though these two events cater to very different clientelle.
SBW is a grass roots gathering of riders and enthusiast.
I'm sure we'll both be fine on the same dates.
NEXT year's SBW [SBW06!!] is set to go on the THIRD week end of Aug.
Pay attention now. 2006 EVENT

Hey Owen, I had a great time at SBW 2003, no doubt about it. I wish I could have made 2004, but didnot know if I was able to get the time off until 2 days before the event.

I have also had a good time at SBNW '03 and '04.

I really don't think it is fair to compare the 2 events at this time.

Your event had a very small participation in its infant years also.

Cost:
SBW=
"Welcome to the SportBike West Rally site. This site is all about the SBW rally, pictures, notes, and events. The rally week end has been held annually on the 3rd [approx.] weekend in Aug for the past 8 years. Each year is bigger and better. Rally tickets, at $50.oo per person, include your souvenier T-shirt, door prize draw tickets, Saturday morning breakfast AND Saturday dinner."

SBNW=Your $69 pre-registration fee includes:

3 nights of on-site camping (a $45 Value) - RV's & Toy Haulers no extra charge ($18 Value)
Rally Tee Shirt ($15 Value)
Catered Breakfast Saturday Morning ($10 Value)
Poker Card for Saturday Poker Run ($800 Purse)
Catered Dinner Saturday Evening ($25 Value)
One door prize ticket ($5 Value) - Additional tickets may be purchased Saturday night.
Admission into the Beer Garden area Friday and Saturday evening
Admission onto the Maryhill Loops Road Saturday (Priceless)
A copy of Sound RIDER's Guide to Motorcycling in the Columbia River Gorge ($20 Value) "

Pervious year attendees received a $10 discount off of that price for a cost of $59. Which included power and water hookups for RV's.

Yes in the past two years the cost of SBNW has been almost double. With the fall of the US dollar your event will be closer in cost this year to SBNW.

You are correct about the difference in clientelle. SBW 2003 was mostly young people. SBNW was mostly the middle age and older crowd. Hell I am fifty , is that middle age or older? LOL.

SBNW 2004 had some younger participants, mid 20's to early 30's. But again was mostly an older group than yours.

I don't understand how your group can be enthuisiasts and SBNW not? That just doesnt make sense.

If either group was not enthuisiasts they would not attend.

A large number of the participation at SBNW do regular track days, have modded bikes, etc.

The only thing they did not do that I experianced at your event was the midnite to 2 am rev limiter event,LOL. Laughed my ass of at those guys!

I don't understand people and the weather, 2003 at SBN it was 100 degrees and people complained about that, wanted the event a week or two later when it would be cooler. This year it rained and they wanted it moved to August when it is drier. The promoter should have just left it on the original weekend and went with the historical data of the weather service.

I truely wish it had stayed in September, for the cooler weather, and to be able to get to SBW2005.

Dino and I rode as much or more than most of the other participants at SBNW 2004 and by choice we only road in the rain one day, and we could have headed east and gotten out from under the rain clouds for the most part. But if we had done that, I would have not had the opportunity to see Dino and his "animal" socks, ROFLOL.

Her is a picture of the only sunshine we saw on our friday rain ride, The viewpoint at Rocky Ridge at MT. Saint Hellens. It was raining 300 yards away!

Hey Ozz, some interesting points.
but a few counter points:

I didn't say SBNW wasn't an enthuisast event, I said SBW was. I can't speak for SBNW 'cause I ain't been there.

The cost break down.
I could list all that stuff and more, I don't see the point. I'm of the opinion that I don't need to point out the obvious included stuff. Frankly if some one is coming because they get all that "included" they're going for the wrong reason. I mean 'common "entrance into the beer gardens" If the only people there are paid atendees, why the value on the beer gardens entrance? Can I come and just pay 5 bucks to get in there? Same for the rest of it.
I feel listing out 'values' like that is a means to justify [or convince why] you charge for admission.

As for the demographics of the events: I've found as the cost to attend goes up, the aveage age goes up. More expendable cash would be one reason for this.

I mean no disrespect to Bill [if he's even still involved with SBNW] our two event are very different. I dunno why he'd move to the same week end as SBW .......... what ever. NORMALLY I'm on the third week end but conflicting issues have dictated a change. 06 is all set for the original date though ........... 10 year of rallies. give me strength.

Owen, I just cut and paste the info from both websites.

Yes I agree that the press was bullshit. Beer garden entrance value? NONE!

I admire your perserveriance in putting on the event every year, A job well!

I have communicated more than once with Tom Mehren,(Tom Mehren is the publisher of Sound RIDER) how you run a well organized event .

This year he used wrist bands, but still had stupid raffle type tickets for the meals. I know that many of us never turned in the ticket because there was no one to turn it in to. I believe he had to pay the fire department for each meal served, someone lost some $ on that. ( I can see no way to record how many ate if you don't collect all the tickets. freeloaders could have easily helped themselves.) I had suggested that they just punch the wrist band for each meal.
No one checked the wrist bands to go into the "beer garden" either,LOL.

I wish I could attend both events every year, but that was not possible this year,
See ya in 2006!
