snow tires?
so i'm contemplating riding my 12R thru the winter, but am not sure if it's even possible. i live in an area when half the winter (at least) sees snow covered roads, sometimes compacted into ice. there's plenty of times & places where there's exposed pavement too tho, so i don't think i can use studded tires, at least not the type of studs you see on dirtbike tires (automotive style studs shoudl work ok tho).
anyway, i'v searched the net in vain. abotu the only info i can find talks about studing dirtbike tires, but as mentioned above, i dont think that will work well as they are said to be real squirely on pavement. does anyone actually make motorcycle tires intended for snow & occasional ice? and would i be able to mount them on street rims or would i need to get a set of offroad rims?
any info or links to info would GREATLY appreciated.

I suppose you could put studs in a set and run inner tubes? Is this really smart though?

I don't think I can find any intelligence all in this conversation...But that being said, you should consider building an outrigger setup to keep you stable over the snow and ice....

Larry,
We used to do this when I lived in the midwest. Nothing like a studded up 4 stroke single on a frozen lake. BIG FUN. Better traction than on dirt. You just buy a bag or two of hex head self taps about 3/4" long. Screw a couple into each knob (on the diagonal) and dress warm.

too bad studs are as slippery as oil when on pavement no-one seems to make car-style studded tires either, which would probably work ok.
