Anyone ride the KTM 650?
Anyone? Impression?
Looking for a dual sport. I have a KTM 250 EXC 2 smoke for the real trails. Looking for something that's light, fun, okay on fire roads and light trails, can haul 2 passengers comfortably etc.
KLR 650 is a bit too big, methinks. Maybe street up a WR450 er sumpin like that.
But I can tell you the 250 is NO fun on the fire roads.

Forget the WR if you want to take a passenger. There's a guy who shows up at out Dual Sport bullshit sessions who owns the 650 Adventurer. He seems to like it and from what I could tell, it seemed to handle some of the rougher stuff not too bad. I do know the suspension on KTMs is excellent. Way better than what comes on a KLR650.
Lots of guys like the DR650 after they get the rear spring replaced. Not as bulky as the KLR, cheap in price and good on fast roads. Needs a bigger fuel tank, progressive springs and good tires. Not as nimble as the DRZ400 though.

I have owned and ridden a KLR650, KLX400SR, and KTM625SXC....the KTM had suspension work done to it to support my 240lbs...IT ROCKED!...I'm not an 'advanced' dirt rider, but I did things on that KTM that I'd have never done on either of the Kawaskis...good power, good handling..like a cement mixer at idle...but once under way...it was a rocket...I also rode my buddy's 525SXC...it was a twitchy booster rocket compared to my 625..then another buddy's YZF450(?)...THAT was INSANE!!!!!

Yeah - I rode a 525 and I just would NOT ride that thang in the tight woods. It would put me on my ass in no time.
I'm looking for a good dual sport that's good for two but is also okay on easier trails. Fire roads etc.
The new BMW GS looks pretty good, but damn - I don't wanna spend that kind of $$$$$.
The 625 looks appealing as does the DRZ. Hmmmmmmmm.....

...could I interest you in my low milege, hardly used 2003 KLX400SR street-licensed dual-sort...its essentially a green-fendered, Kawasaki stickered Suzuki DRZ400-S...even the shop manual (included in the deal references the DRZ...lemme know

Yup - thinking about that, Larry. My mind is awash with endless possibilities and frothing with thought.
Hey - if I can even find a bike that would be fun for track days I'm set. That's why I don't want anything TOO heavy.
