Daytona times tell the HP story Going by the lap times at Daytona during tire tests so far, and given the quality level of the current ZX10 riders, I'd have to say the power figures we're hearing of it being in the 150/160 hp range stock are accurate.
The bikes that Josh, Tommy & Roger are riding are in the Superstock + mod range. Easily attainable by anyone. Those bikes are probably in the upper 160 - 170 hp range. Most of the Superstock mods have been good for 12-20 hp gains. Again, going by the times and the quality of rider @ Daytona, they're looking good.

Just read up on it...Don't know why you thing the Kaws are competitive. Ben Bostrom's hitting 190 mph ang getting into the 1:48s on the CBR. That's about a half second faster than Matt on the GSXR. The Yamaha is reported to be good for 183, and the Kaw is only good for about 180. Oh well!

swft - I was noting the 10's competitivness in "Superstock" form. You can make comparisions to Ben's bike, as long as you keep in mind that the 10, along with the R1, are Superstock trim. That makes both of them extremely competitive machines.
The R1 is now dropping into the sub-50 times. Again, in Superstock form. Those are Superbike lap times. But alot of that has to do with Jamie Hacking as the rider as well.

Way too early to make serious judgments about the 10R/R1 comparo in Superstock. IMHO Remember it's all about the real world street that I look for.

*grins* Ok, I admit it, I didn't check and see what was superstock and what was superbike, until I posted the times. But I have reservations about the 10R's performance against the R1. I guess the good news is that all four manufacturers are sporting major four cylinder efforts for this year, even if it's not a apple-to-apple contest.

Until the magazines start comparing them in "boxstock" form, we won't know all the facts.
Right now, comparing the R1 & 10 at Daytona is not a fair fight. The R1's have had so much development in the chassis area with Chuck Graves (FX class). Much of that crossed directly over to the new version of R1. Plus, you've got two great riders in Hacking & DiSalvo, who both spent time on them last year.
The 10's are brand new to everyone. They're pretty darn close for being right out of the box. But I do agree with you on the "reservations"....

Hey K,
Good point about the mags. Too bad we can't depend on an objective review by a US magazine. I predict they'll rate the honda first (honda pays the most advertising revenue), the suzuki second (because that's what they paid the neighbor kid to ride), the yamaha third (they'll whine about it being too twitchy) and the kawasaki fourth (unfinished, wrong color, whatever else they can think of).

Hard to say. There's still journalists out there that wet themselves last time they came over the bump at Atlanta on a R1... ____________

swft - so true. I had a '01, R1. It was extremely fast in the mountains & on the track. But it was very, very sensitive to handlebar pressure on bumps and agressive direction changes. She'd go into major tank slappers at a moments notice. I should note, I did not use a steering damper on mine, which probably would have made it better.

*grins* I'm heartened by psycho's post. Altho a second is a lot, it's also a lot better than over a second and a half. At least there's some time left to for tuning.
