Someone was listening...

Nice lil blurb bout the ZX10R that I didn't see anywhere else before...

quote:
Pop nuts are used to fasten the bodywork to the frame, making disassembly and service easier, and the light, five-piece tail section opens at the top for easy maintenance.

That's from the info on the Kawasaki web site:

Kawasaki would have had to be deaf if they hadn't done something about those plastic fastener.

HEY!!!.....we get the information to the right hands when we need to.

Just trial and error man......sometimes you cant just drop a vendor when you've already made a commitment to them....just so you understand.

We do listen....and I'm not the only one.

Not to be a jerk, and not getting personal, but why were they there in the first place? Vendor relationships? How about the customer relationship? Are there new fasteners on the 2003 or 04 zx-12 yet?
Trial and error?
Shouldn't there be a guy who gets paid to say "damn if we put this plastic screw on this 10k dollar bike, we are some real dickheads!"

Wouldn't that make some great marketing material? Just the name of the company and a picture of a reasonably durable fastener. The tag line could read
Kawasaki - our pieces aren't made of crap.

Bet there are 40 out of work guys in bars here in the USA somewhere with the knowledge and skill to build indestructible fasteners. Good thing they ain't workin for that vendor.

At Honda, they are proud to say that their engineers graduated at the top of their class!

At Kawasaki, they are proud their engineers graduated!

i'd say it's more likely a symptom of too many engineers (and accountants) and not enough mechanics.

sorry bout the venomous posting. I just had to drill out a couple screws this weekend that stripped and I was still a bit crusty I guess. It has just been a drag with this zx-12 and the repairs and the quality issues. And my little repair bill. I guess that is just par for the course. Oh yea and I just bought the plastic Chevy screws too and it looks like they are just the ticket. Don't tell the 40 guys in the bars.

There seem to be some spots where you have to use the screws tho. Did you guys use the Chevy fasteners everywhere? On the side panels they didn't seem to go all the way in. In some spots where there are threaded recievers I couldn't use em at all. Am I doing it wrong?

I'll get it for you later today Dave. I have a bag of them at the shop. Part number is on the bag.

They will not fit everywhere. They will replace the real cheesey plastic screw type fasteners on the lower fairings though.......the one's that strip out when you try to change your oil...........

Someone posted (I think it was Ted G)...That he replaced the cheap fasteners with these -

part #10134407 = $.62each
from the Chevy dealer

I dont think that they were metal. If I remember correctly....It was a plastic snap assembly!!!

I paid a 1.10 but I am hard not to see coming.

I got the number and posted it in the black ZX10 picture post. Oops......

It is indeed the number posted above. I copied my reply from the other post and am psting it here.

Paste:

O.K...................got that number for the push type fasteners...........

The G.M. part number is 10134407. I think they were about $5.99 for a pack of ten. Heh heh heh.......I would have paid WAY more for them considering the trouble I had with the original ones.

And yes they are plastic........
