Talked to my friendly local dealer again today. KMC is still telling them December delivery.

re: TBA. I have followed my beloved Kawasaki's web sites for a couple of years and my experience has been that the bikes will be on the showroom floors long before the "TBA's" are replaced with real numbers.

Well, maybe I'll get lucky and have that early Christmas present to myself. Nothing wrong with hoping! I live just a few hours from a Kawasaki plant, maybe that has something to do with the stated November delivery date.

Oh how nice it would be to have some "inside" information!

Yea, it would be great to have some good info. It would be nice to know that I did the right thing in putting my deposit down on the ZX-10. Instead of putting it down on a Gixxer 1K or R1. If there was only some way to be reassured that I did the right thing. Hmmm. I think if I knew the "10" could handle the '03 Gixxer, I would feel much better.

No kidding. Gotta have blind faith in big green! Is your dealer confident in the December delivery date? What color did you go with? Mine is going to be black. My local dealer assures me that I will have the only 10 in the area for at least six months. We'll see......

Yes, 2fast, my dealer is confident of a December delivery as of yesterday. But that is not carved in stone and could change. I am getting green. Just too much of a die hard Kawasaki fan.

Had a bad ride today. One that involves Life Flight Helicopters. One of the guys in our group failed to make a turn. Did you know that break-away road signs don't break-away when a motorcycle rider hits the sign post with his face? I had a uninterupted view of the whole thing. He is alive and still undergoing evaluation. So far, all of the bones in his face are broken, broken scapula and they suspect cracked vertabra. He did not have a high dollar helmet and the chin bar broke in several places and the helmet was split above the eye opening. Be safe out there guys. These toys are VERY SERIOUS toys. The track is a much better place to play with these things.

Sorry to hear about your friend; I've been there myself. I now have titanium plates in my head and a lot of stories to tell. I wish the best for him.

ZX, sorry about your friend and I hope he recovers quickly.

Even though Corpus Christi is fairly close to this area's KMC distribution center (Houston, I believe), I would still be very surprised to see one there before the first of the year. Not saying that it won't happen, but I'd be surprised. Who knows, your dealer might not even be in this region and will be getting his bikes from a different center.

From what I understand, some time in Dec. is when KMC US will start shipping them out of the warehouses near Irvine, CA. In other words, that some time in Dec. is the "release" date, not the "delivery" date. Unless, of course, your dealer is in Irvine, CA.

As I explained in my earlier post, even if they start arriving at the Houston distribution center in Dec., there will be quite a few other dealers wanting their new models at the same time as yours and it will boil down to who has trucks coming their direction from the center first. There are many factors involved in what goes where first. From what I understand, your dealer will need to keep in touch with his distribution center to insure that he gets one as soon as it arrives there.

The most important thing is that he has other models that are there and need to be shipped to him as well. The centers normally (basically "never") will not ship just one or two units to a dealer unless they already have a truck heading that way. Hopefully, he also ordered some of the 2000 Vulcans, because they are supposed to be realesed around the same time. Having a couple of Vulcans combined with a 10R or two will greatly increase his chances of getting a 10R as soon as possible. Naturally, a couple more different units (ATVs, dirt bikes, etc.) on top of that won't hurt.

Past sales figures will have little to no effect on the delivery times. Even though my dealer is number one in this region, odds are that you'll see your green 10R before I see mine. Your just closer to the center. How well he gets along with the folks over at the center and how often he calls (not just checks the computer), will be the what makes the difference. Oh, and a whole lot of luck.

Deposits

Hey Zeta Xray...I covered the bases on the deposits and put one on each of the new machines, ZX-10R, R1 and 1000RR. Dealers only asked for $100 deposit and the $300 is well worth it if you are not sure or want to wait to see what the rags say. I am sure the 10R will be the bike to have, but I got burned with the 12 somewhat because Motorcyclist killed it in their test and people started pulling deposits, resale went down etc. Ultimately I was very happy with my 12 but ended up getting low resale. Don't want that to happen again. Just my 2 cents.
