2004 ZX-10R Colors

Lime Green / Metalallic Flat Stoic Black (bottom part of lower fairing)
Metallic Spark Black / Metalallic Flat Stoic Black

Europe/Canada/US only

Candy Thunder Blue / Metalallic Flat Stoic Black

Australia/Canada/US only

Pearl Blazing Orange / Metalallic Flat Stoic Black

In other words US and Canada will be the only countries that will have all four colors available.

Come on, extremelean! Las Vegas is just a couple of weeks away, it won't matter if you let a few numbers like wheelbase and rake/trail slip out.

We can guess that because of the statement, "Best Power to Weight Ratio" that either it is not the lightest or it is not the most powerful liter class bike out there. It doesn't help that the numbers for the Suzuki GSXR, Yamaha R1 and especially the Honda CBR1000RR are not out for 2004 yet.

Since everybody (Kawasaki and Honda) is going to compare their offering to the class leader (GSXR), I figure that the numbers will look something like this...

Weight - GSXR - 370 lbs vs. 10R - 368 lbs~378 lbs
Wheelbase - GSXR - 55.5" vs. 10R - 55.3"~55.5"
Rake & Trail - GSXR - 24°/96mm vs. 10R - 23.5°~24.5°/94mm~96mm
RWHP (stock) - 146hp~152hp vs. 10R -148hp~154hp (170hp vs.175hp at the crank)

My guess will be 375 lbs, 55" wheelbase, a 24.5°/95mm rake and trail with about 150 RWHP. If I remember correctly, the average "modified" Gixxer (can, filter, PC, etc.) puts out around 160hp~165hp. If Muzzy and the others comes through like they did on the 12R and after doing all the "regular" modifications (filter, PCIIIR, etc), 170 RWHP is not out of the question.

It's probably going to be kinda hard to trim more than 15 lbs. of the 10R, without spending the serious $$$$. Figuring that it's unlikely a "full" exhaust system will be available (due to the butterfly valve in the collector), a aftermarket canister will only trim off seven or so pounds (give or take). The wheels are already pretty light and it looks like the amount of "easy to remove BS" has been kept to a minimum. Still, a "wet" weight of under 430 lbs should not be that hard to attain. Doing so "wild guessing" weight to power ratio math that includes my weight, all my gizmos and all the other stuff I carry , as well as "guess-timating" both bikes' wet weight (read: real world)... my 12R comes out to about 4.25:1 and a "modified" 10R would be just under 4:1.

Hmmmmmmm... a quarter pound difference. I'll take mine with cheese and add bacon, please.

frEEk, I'm guessing that the riding position will be almost identical to the 636/6RR. Nowhere near as "comfortable" as the 12R.

?? I didn't understand that part of your post redelk. The Gixxer and R1 have the same valve. I would say that Akrapovic already has a full titanium system developed considering their very close tie's with Kawasaki's roadracing team's........ and the same for Muzzys..........

I am excited about this bike.......( I think you are too ) and can't wait to read some reviews and take a turn on the seat of one.

Similar horsepower numbers between the Gixxer and Kaw probably...........but they will be completly different animals I suspect. The ZX10 has a much shorter stroke than the Gixxer..........and I suspect it will be harder for most people to ride fast on the street than the R1 or Gixxer 1K. I am betting on REAL fast lap times a the track however.

Anyway.........this is one of my favorite time's of the year.........when the new models get introduced. I am looking forward to checking out the new ZX10................................and can't wait to park one in the garage.

Warbird, that was a statement based in ignorance... mine. Of course, I do guess a full system will eventually be available, but I guessing that it might be a while. I remember ordering my Muzzy system before I even took delivery of my 12R (one of the first '00 in AR). I don't think I'll be able to do the same for my 10R. Who knows? Maybe I will be able to.

Beacuse of that valve, I would be a tad leary about ordering one as soon as the full systems started coming out. I remember hearing all those horror stories of R1s switching to a full system and losing power. On the other hand, I'm also fairly sure that Akro and Muzzy would not release such crap for the 10R either. We'll wait and see.

Excited? Hell, I spent half the day, yesterday, discussing my "deal" with my dealer, the general manager and my salesman. Things like trade in, rear seat cowl, euro signals, service manual, 4 year extended warranty, et. al., were all debated.

I too, would like to wait, but I really don't have that option. Not only is the extended warranty on my 12R about to expire, but by the time the 10R gets to my dealer, it will be about the last chance for me to get the best value in trade... due to the amount of "actual" mileage.

My biggest concern is not how the headlights look, but how well the light up the road. Especially in the corners. The 12R was quite an improvement over the 7R (with those bogus 'reflectors" in front of the bulbs). Hopefully, the 10R will take "road lighting" to the next level.

I feel if one spends time looking at their bike... they ain't riding it! I really don't care what it looks like if I can ride it fast with confidence. If I can... I will.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

If anyone deserves a "break", it would be ME! It's just that I "blew" any chance I had at getting a break back at that Cycle World show in Dallas, a few years ago.

Heh heh.............I hear ya man.............I'm not waiting either..........

Which ever color we choose, that will be the first one my dealer orders. When it comes in, he will assemble it, check all the major torque specs and cover it with my sheet until I get there. No one rides it, starts it, or sits on it. That's a routine on all my purchases there. I have a GREAT dealer, and consider myself lucky to have such a good relationship with him. I always bring my cleaning supplys with me and clean and wax the living shit out of the bike.............while grinning from ear to ear..........before I take it home. ONE dark cloud in the sky and it goes in the trailer for the ride home.

They all think I'm a nut-case at the shop. But I really enjoy my new bike purchases.

I'm with you red................I think it's gonna be a great bike. Probably the best Kawasaki ever.

By the way........I'm thinking of trading in one of my 12's on the 10R. If anyone want's a REAL cherry 2000 12R..... I've got one with 620 miles on it. And I mean CHERRY. There is so much wax on my bike's that if one fell over in the garage..........it would slide right out the door............

"Talking"? More like making a demanding ass out of myself and causing enough of a scene to almost get thrown out of the convention center.

Yeah... that's what I mean.

Do tell them I said, "Hello" and I hope all is well for the both of them.

BTW - I stayed away from the Kawasaki booth like the plague, this last Dec. in Dallas. I figured that I'd be shot on site.

I hear ya, Warbird!

I told my dealer that since he was not going to Vegas (their GM is the only one going), I would go in his place and "keep an eye" on their GM. Someone has to make sure he "acts right" when picking up their "Ichabod Crane" award (Gold Ichiban for being #1 in the region and Top Ten in the nation). Then I realized that I would be at Deal's Gap during the dealers' meeting anyway. I figure since the GM is taking his wife, he'll behave (as if there was any doubt - he's a good guy).

I have pretty well settled on green as the color I want. Since my dealer (and I guess all the other dealers) won't be placing his order till after the show, I'm just hoping that the green one will be the first to arrive. I will go nuts seeing some other color briefly sitting on their showroom floor while I wait for mine to arrive!

When my 12R arrived...

... they were going to let me help uncrate and assemble it. I was such a nervous wreck, I was "demoted" to "supervisor" (don't touch any of the tools or the bike) and eventually told to just "go fill out the paper work or something".

To add insult to injury, after changing out the oil (and putting in too much - nobody read the A&P sheet), the oil light would not go out. ACK! It wasn't till the following day that they figured out that when a new bike did this, it had to be "burped" (take the oil filter off and tap the starter till oil comes out). So much for having the first 12R in the state. A friend of mine took delivery of his from a different dealer on the same day I WOULD HAVE got mine (but didn't).

Now, having gone through the A&P process and the fact that I wouldn't let my dealer's current A&P guys (the "old ones" are gone) even get close to my new baby, it looks like I and their head mechanic will be the only ones that get even close to the crate. At least this time we WILL READ the A&P sheets FIRST, before we do anything.

I might ride it around in their parking lot or maybe even down the street and back, but one thing is for sure and that is that I will be trailering it home. No matter what the weather is like. The streets near my dealer are such a nightmare (traffic and surface wise) to ride, I wouldn't even think of riding a new bike home on them.
