Built ZX-10R?
I've been kicking around the idea of selling my K5 and grabbing a 2004 ZX-10R. I want to bore the motor, do head work, cams, maybe even lighten and balance the crank. I'm seeking the ever elusive 200+ rwhp for my effort (and cash).Has anyone reading this done either the 1051cc bore or the 1077cc bore? What kind of results did you get after porting the head, running some bigger cams and putting in some good time at the dyno?
Also, is this a good motor to stroke? If so, what is a good increase to keep the motor on the street? Thanks.

If you want 200 hp build a Busa or ZX14. The 10 motor is way over stressed and is unreliable at that horsepower level.

I was afraid that would be the answer. I have a 200+ hp 1441 Busa and I was looking for a smaller, more capable (cornering) package. I've always loved the ZX-10R and was relatively successful finding guys over on ZX-10R.net who'd done similar big bore builds. I was hoping for some insight from this board.

If you build it right and don't cut any corners there should not be a problem with reliability issues. All I got to say is JNM MOTORSPORTS ;-)

The ZX10R engines are very durable. I had an 04 with 180 RWHP, and never had a problem. The bike was insanely fast because it is so light. You have to remember that an 04 ZX10 would be 100 - 150lbs lighter than the Busa. I have an 08 ZX10R now with a Carpenter engine. It makes 188 RWHp on a known stingy dyno, and I have had no problems with it at all. The bike is insanely fast. It will effortlessly power wheelie at 140 in 4th. I have had it come up in 5th, and even 6th when it is cold out. I had a built ZX12R before, and it was fast as hell, but it was nothing to a light bike with a lot of power. There is nothing like a short, light bike with big power if you want an exciting ride, and of course the handling is light years better. Mike.

Only thing better than a 10R with big power is a built 12R that weighs less than 400 pounds with big power...

The easiest way to get 200 horse on a 10R buy a new one get the ecu reflashed add a power commander and Brock's Alien pipe. Whamo you got 200 horse and didn't have to open the engine. I did the ecu reflash on mine 183 horse with stock pipe. I will have to stop there as our race track has a 94 decibel sound limit and most aftermarket pipes will not pass. Some will with an insert but why waste all that money on an exhaust that I will have to plug up to go to the track.
