Bridgestone S20
Hey guy's,
I just wanted to share my thoughts on Bridgestones S20 tires. To give you a little background....I currently ride an 05 ZX10R. My previous bike was an 04 which I put about 25k miles on. My first tires were the Dunlop Q2's. I thought it was a good tire but I went thru them a little quick and I thought they were a tad nervous on the front. I tried the Pirelli Diablo Rosso's next..size 190/50/17. I thought this was a much better tire. They calmed the 10R down and lasted a lot longer. I thought the stick was real good for the street. I got about 4800 miles out of the rear. When I got my 05 it had a new set of Michilen 2CT's on it. I think think this tire has real good turn in and good compliance. When they were hot it was hard to fault them. When cold the rear would squirm a little especially over the pavement sealer on cool days up here in Ann Arbor Michigan. I also ran the 190/50/17 with the Michilen's. Over all though I had more confidence with the Pirelli so when they came out with the Rosso II's I put them back on. This time the 190/55/17. I had heard all the hype so I had to try the new size. Personally I'm a big guy and have no problem with how my bike turns in. I prefer it to be nice a stable even if it takes a little more effort. The height of the 190/50 is 95mm where the 190/55 is 104.5mm. So personally I don't like the way it messes with your gearing and I could live without the extra rapid turn in. So finally this brings us to the Bridgestones. I was a little nervous to mess with a good thing especially if you pay attention to Moto GP. Stoner and Rossi are always complaining about the tires, warm up time, feel and many riders have lost the front over last year. I picked up a set of S20's for $237 from Chaparral and they arrived the next day. First off they are a very slick until you get the form release off. I was like "shit I made a mistake" I headed straight to the nearest clover leaf(highway off ramp on ramp where 2 hways intersect) the first couple laps the rear would hit a seam and then would move just a bit but by the 3rd or 4th time around I was cranking it while leaned over at 30 degrees with no movement at all except my front wheel coming up. They got way, way, better real quick. The turn in is real light but it doesn't fall in. I'm running the 200/50/17 which has a hieght of 100mm. I think its a happy median vs the 190/55/ or 190/50. After thrashing them for the day I hate to say it but they are better in every way compared to the Pirelli Rosso II's. Serious grip, great compliance. You can trail brake deep into the corner with no fear. So if your on the fence have no worries. If they last as long as the Rosso II's, I have found a new favorite tire....
