Poll Question:
How do you rate the new ZX10R over previous versions?

I am just curious what you all are thinking about the new 2011 ZX10R with all its hype, and now the recall/Hold? Would you trade in your older bike on one? Would you wait for the HOLD to be fixed or take a chance now? Or would you just keep what you have?

Personally I havent ridden a newer Gen ZX10R that has even made me contemplate trading my 04.

Impressed yes, I think Kawi got this one right on all counts but...being just the first answer from Japan to the BMW S1000R, will wait to see what else comes out from the other three in the next 6-12 months.

I read a local review in AMCN just before Christmas, and they are a pretty thorough and trustworthy crew and they did not find, nor mention anything sub-par about it. They liked it a LOT.

This was in very marked contrast to previous reviews of earlier ZX-10s in that mag and also in another excellent Aussie bike mag called 'Rapid'. Both canned earlier 10Rs for being bad handlers, with crappy suspension, that didn't want to turn corners anywhere near as well as their competition did.

And keep in mind, one of the people who said this (and was particularly scathing of the standard cornering capabilities, which he described as a threat to life and limb) was former 500cc GP World Champion Wayne Gardner (referring to a yellow 2007, in the Rapid SBK shootout). But during that same test a bolt actually came lose from the triple clamp leading to a suspicion that this particular test-bike was a lemon and perhaps not representative.

However, AMCN also noted that their test-bike was also under whelming in the cornering department, as it also simply didn't want to turn in at speed, and ran wide badly on exit (and was nervous as hell in a straight line). Basically the opposite of confidence inspiring, thus it was slow compared to the rest.

The 2008-2009 was also reported to have similar cornering issues, but much less, but the 2010 finally got good reviews.

This time though the 2011 got no such criticism, just endless praise, except that the new adjustable steering damper was not really able to be made ideally stiff enough for some rider’s preferences.

So I’d say from the local perspective, it is looking like the best ZX-10R, and definitely in the running for sport bike of the year.
