ZX-10 speed limiter

I'm going through the ECU software to find the rev limits etc. of a 2004 ZX-10 (21175-0029) and can't find any speed limits. I found them on the 06/07 ZX-10 and 14 but can't seem to find them in this one.

Did the earlier 10s not have a speed limiter because they didn't have the power or gearing to get to 186? Is the normal rev limit in 6th in effect the speed limiter?

RidgeRacer, if I'm not mistaken the earlier ones were geared near 186 from the factory hence why I don't think they were on there. We just rolled an 06/07 10R, you are very correct, it kicked in hard on the dyno at about 181 mph but the owner had a very bald tire.

The Ace Performance guys have tuned an 04/05 10R at the 9/10ths and may be able to shed some light on the topic but I'm pretty sure they didn't come with an electronic speed limiter....the 2 around my area are both geared up so I'd never be able to find out even if I topped them out, sorry.

RR, this is from Gunner:

"Ship...... I noticed that Ridge was asking a question about the ECU on an 04/05 10R concerning speed limits in the ECU... Those model years where thought to be limited only by aero... I know that Chad Millholland broke 200 with his 04 10R more than once and all he done was more power and some gear AND aero changes... so will you let dude know he's wasting his time looking for a limit within the ECU..

Thanks man"

exactly how do you derestrict a top speed limit on an ECU, is there a diode that needs to be replaced?

Well the way I do it is to reprogram or 'reflash' the ECU. It is basically just a computer and I go in and change the software.

The software I use is some that I developed and wrote myself. To connect to the ECU I use a hardware device I designed and built. If you wanted to buy your own setup I know of a guy in Italy that sells the hardware for about 3,000 euros and charges about $300USD each and every time you use his software to flash an ECU.
