need help with 07 zx10
all right fellas. Friend of mine just got a 07 zx10. The problems ive seen so far with just riding it is. It surges from 9k to 13k. The fi light is on. The past owner said he unhooked the butterfly valve when he changed the exhaust. That might be why the light is on. Also the front brakes are sponge and the clutch is grabby. We are planning to make this bike into a street, drag bike. It already has pc3,akapovic exhaust, -1+3 520 chain conversion. To say it has different sprockets. It has no down low pull. It takes it a minute to rev up. Im going to put a 8in extension and lower it. Let me know what u think on everything else including whats the best gearing 210 rider that will still be able to hit the highway.

I weigh about that..have 7 inch extension and dragracing is my game for max fun....I would go -2 front and at least +3 in rear....My ZX-10R is a 2004....if the motor that enables the butterfly valve is disabled I believe the FI light comes on...the thing I did was allow the motor to continue and unhook all the cables to it..that way no FI light comes on and the motor comes alive at start up, which does no harm...not sure why you are having surges...might need tuning from a dyno...good luck...it should have down pull....
hope this helps

The clutch can get grabby due to dry plates....before dragracing weekend or often enough you will benefit from learning to take out the whole clutch pack; fibers and steels and soaking them in oil and reinstalling...this way you will prolong the life of your clutch fibers and plates and you will notice an improvement if extensive damage has not already been done....go over the plates with very fine sandpaper or other method before insdtalling...check for warped plates...only by inspection and experience you will benefit...there may be info under the searth feature here in bike land...this is common problem with ZX-10R due to weak clutch pack...I mean weak compared to a ZX-11 or zx-14...zx-10r was not designed for dragracing but with savy you can help it's clutch design a lot...best of luck...have fun!!

thanks salsa. i have a zx14 i race a 06. I know all the ends and outs about it. This 10 is different. I tried my best to get the front brakes from being so sponge. I also lowered the bike. Found out that with the double pipes the tire will rub the exhaust. The bike had stock gearing so i put -1+3. Pulled the flies and installed a map from brock. It still doesnt impress me. Maybe ill try that -2 just to see the difference. Thanks for the advice.

Put the 04-05 ZX-10 clutch pack inside the 06 model and place the doulbe steel in the center of the clutch pack....Also check the throttle position sensor to see if it needs adjustment becuase it will and may cause your surging issues that you are having.

well first and foremost all 07 10s have bs brakes the trick to bleeding them is to take the calipers off after initial drain and stick a folded cardboard strip in them pump them until they pinch the cardboard then carefuly so as not to scratch the pads wedge a flat object in there to push the piston back into the caliper while bleeding and having the resivoir cap off. this will make your brakes feel 70 percent better if not satisfied go with the 14s brakes bolt right on

The gearing depend on your weight. I am 210 and I use 15/43, launch the bike around 5k to 5500.
-install the 04/05 clutch set up
-520 converson is good to do (if the money is there)
-changing the fluids after every 15 passes (fresh oil doesn't hurt)
-cut the oil pan
