04 10R Considerations?

I might be looking at picking up an 04 10R (trade deal for older bike). Is there anything to "watch out for"? I had an 06 briefly, but I don't know too much about these bikes....

Any info would be great! Thanks!

Shane

love the '04 10R ... . one of my favorite bikes of all time... I'd consider getting my old one back if I had room in the garage... bike is a classic and set the standard for the class at the time. You can't go wrong

I've got an 04 10r...

1 Front rim... these were recalled when they first came out. Check the part# with the dealer to see if yours was recalled/fixed.

2 Ram air tube. Wheelies (which are virtually unavoidable on this bike) will snap the plastic where it connects to the frame intake( the plastic supports pretty much the entire front of the fairing). Reinforce or buy a new one.

3 They're geared to hit the 186mph limit stock. Regearing down one in the front or up a few in the rear gives some impressive stomp at the expense of the rarely used top speed.

4 Some have complained about the dead feeling front brakes, I've found braided lines are enough of an improvement for me.

5 Twitchy. Consider a dampener. Really.

6 Noise. These are rattly, buzzy, noisy bikes when not making obscene power. I thought there was something wrong with mine until everyone said the same thing. Ignore the noises.

7 Rear tires. They eat them. Chains and sprockets too. Enjoy.

8 Tickets. Gets expensive.

Love the thing.

I agree with statement two entirely. I bought a carbon fiber one from pit-eck. So far no issues.

You guys need to learn how to sit down a wheelie is about all I can say about that. My 05 still has the same OE part with no issues.. And trust me mine is no stranger to very long and fast wheelies..

My last crash, a highside, killed my ram-air tube after about 27,000 miles (of which 12k are racing with altered gearing - plenty of small power-wheelies). The replacement is, I think, heavier.

I will check into that .....I was looking for Aluminum as I thought it would be more druable than the plastic, or the CF....but the bike isnt going to be a track only bike, so I wanna keep it neat......

Still Got my 04 10R just had a full superbike spec engine built for it and running it in unfortunately having ridden the later bikes upto the current bike I am sorry to say they lost something along the way.

The original was and still is to date the best 10R made it had character was different to all the other litre class bikes and after perservering with the 06,07,08 models in the racing arena the end result was nowhere.

Having changed to Honda this year and running at the Philip Island WSB round also a ASB round Wayne Maxwell grabs pole with a 1:32.85 last week in testing he managed a 1:32.2 and its only the second time on the bike.

All those seasons of frustration and riding to the point of constantly crashing just to finish top 10 I really hope Kevin Curtain knows what he is in for this season it will certinally take all of his considerable talent to tame the beast.

Having said all that and considering all the modifications I have made to this bike it is still the most satisfying bike to ride I have ever owned particularly now with the new engine this bike is scary fast!

Take the plunge you wont regret it.
