Damn those were some serious lean angles he had going on there. And was it just me, or did you guys hear some engine management kicking in as he romped on the gas coming out of that corner still fully leaned over? Traction control is what I'm thinking!
Why does Kawi always have to have green bikes though... Yeah Yeah I know, it's there 'color' but geez, not all of us like green!!

Traction control only works at speed, will not inhibt burnouts
Thay just made launching it that much easier, if they did it right it will be alot faster than a human can react... only need to keep the frt end down... slamit and stretch the horny little bastard!

The new ignition management system on the 2008 ZX10R curtails sudden spikes in engine speed.
The system monitors the engine RPM and when there is a sudden change in RPM by rear wheel spin the ignition timing retards accordingly to regain traction.
To ensure the system does not act unnecessarily, the system also uses input from the throttle position, bike's speed and gear position.
I think it's gonna help.

I think it's an awesome idea that is very late in coming to bikes. Just watching him power out of that corner, rear tire slipping at the utmost of traction was awesome! For those of us who have roadraced competitively enough to appreciate it, that brings much wood It's not possible for even the very best rider to match the corner exit speed and accelleration of a properly done up traction control equipped bike. That's why it was such a hot button for the last half dozen years. Now they are finally accepting it (as long as it doesn't use a wheel speed sensor I believe).
Now think about its practical aplications for street use. How many of you guys have, or know someone who has, hit gravel or sand midcorner and had your rear step out on you resulting in a wreck or near wreck? Personally, I've seen it happen maybe 15-20 times ending in wrecks, with hundreds of near misses. It's a good thing, trust me!
And from the insurance and media exposure side of it, it's also a win-win. Less guys wrecking equals less media coverage and happier insurance companies!
If we could just make them require riding courses prior to buying sport bikes, and have the OEM's put satellite tracking devices on all new bikes our community would be in the clear and then the damn media could go after those no signal left turners...

That maybe a good thing for the drag strip ..I have had problems with my zx14 blowing the tire off after shifting to second gear...It doesn't happen offten but when it does it sucks for ET and MPH ...Maybe the 08 zx10 will not suffer that problem ? Once the tire starts to spin the human hand can't react fast enough to correct the problem and save the run ...... If it doesn't work i'm sure someone will come along and fix it like we did with the flys on the zx14 ... Smokin...

True dat Smokin'. If it annoys or doesnt help, unplug it! lol
Steve, the tracking thing only gets turned on when the vehicle is reported stolen, and doesnt even know if vehicle is being driven or is sitting. Worm should know all the details, being a donut eater. It's the gps data that will get you in trouble, but so far its not required on bikes like it is on new cars. So far... But, if it can be added, I'm betting Power Commander can take it away!

we already have the lo-jack for that
HOW LOJACK WORKS:
LoJack for motorcycles uses a small, silent transmitter that's hidden within your motorcycle. Once police enter a stolen vehicle report, LoJack is automatically activated and enables the police to track and recover your motorcycle

The problem with LoJack? It can take up to a week to be tracked down by the police. Hell, I was watching "Cops" and one of there bait cars was stolen. It took them 4 hours after the request to get it activated! A motorcycle cop was run over in the mean time by the suspects. 'Course the version they used could turn the vehicle off, don't know if all Lo-Jacks can do that.

YOU still thinking HONDA for 08 Fish? ____________ There's no such thing as a motor with no more power to give only people with no more intelligence to get it

Kawasaki <---I expect the 2008 litre bike to win in "peak" horsepower, and the drag strip (or any straight line).
HONDA <------- I suspect the 2008 litre bike will perform better then the ZX10 on corner speed, stopping distance, lower lap times on the track, and better handling and manageability on the street.
But we can talk smack all we want, the shootouts begin soon and the bikes will be tested side by side by many pro's. And when that flag drops, the BS stops. We'll see. Sure I've been wrong before, but I doubt I about this topic. And its no secret I'm not a slave or fan of any one brand of bike.
