04 ZX10 generator issues?

I just acquired a 2004 ZX10R, it is destined for the track.
Word has it that there are issues with the generator assembly on this bike. My local dealer doesnt know anything about it.
So, while I have it stripped down, what should I replace/inspect etc?
Thanx
Jim

I heard something also, regarding bolts becoming loose. Just check out that everything is tightened. If you have to disassemble then use a heavy duty non-permanent locking agent for the bolts.
Don´t worry as this is not a common issue as far as I know.

Not knowing when your engine is going to grenade just makes it more exciting. The 04 model has a poor generator assembly design which has resulted in catastrophic engine failure. This flaw was partially band-aid addressed in 05 and completly redesigned in 06. Unfortunately the redesigned unit is incompatible with your 04. If you want more info, the topic has been extensivly discussed at zx-10r.net good luck.

had issues with my genereator on my 04, it let loose on the track while I was out riding. Took it back in and had it fixed under warrranty, sucked but better than me paying for it, no motor damage occured when it let go. It sounded liek the dam motor blew up when it let go though...thought I lost a rod at first...

Dealer bill woudl have been $1900 bones

BTW, what´s the VIN serial # of your bike?
Seems that first thousands in production have the problem.
