race intake cam

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I can't ever find anything with the search function. I just ordered the kawasaki factory race intake cam and thin headgasket from my dealer, I couldn't believe how cheap they were, and I just wanted to know what kind of power numbers I could expect from this and if anyone had any suggestions as to what to degree the cams to. My bike is an 04 with a full muzzy's exhaust and power commander and it pulled 165 horsepower on my local dyno. Thanks.

Hello. I just put a race intake cam into my zx10r 05. Dyno is showing NO gains at all at the top end.
In the middle of the tach the lambda now shows lean mixture (760) so gains are expected here. I will tell you once I have the PC3usb readjusted.
Other previous mods: Akrapovic Hex slipon, Factorypro stacks, Ignition module, K&N filter, APE block off plates

race intake cam degreed to what lobe center? if its not timed right won't give you anything..

i installed that exact package on a 04 zx10 and it didnt gain but 4 hp but it did need a good cleanup map. after a proper tune with a very good tuner the bike ran a .10 faster in the 8th. the owner never ran a 1/4 with it either way. so for the parts cost i would recomend that mod to the fullest if you only want a small gain.

What lobe centers do you guys think I should degree to? I've heard some guys say theirs are degreed 107/104, some say 107/103, what do you guys suggest? I'll be honest, I dont fully understand how different lobe centers affect power delivery.

Hello guys; well..I finally did my homework at the race track and adjusted the PC3usb for a lambda reading around 880 mV, and the bike is now a rocket missile. It delivers a strong power willie in 2nd and almos in 3rd (stock gearing 17/39).
This was impossible with the stock intake cam no matter how well the PC3 would be adjusted. My weight is around 178.
Seems like the race cam needs the strong pressure given by the ram air. On the dyno this can´t be properly simulated.
I did not cam degreed it because there is no information from Kawasaki. There are no adjustable cam sprockets from Kawasaki, and timming the cams would involve EXTENSIVE dyno testing. the worst thing is that you have to disassemble and reassemble everything for each test, and as you know, it´s a pain in the a...
Next step would be the race exhaust cam and .45 head gasket. Will wait for a couple of months for this.

airfuel ratio translation? 13:1? 12.9:1? what is 880mV...habla espanol?

Salsa1, hablo español. Nevertheless I will keep the english for the rest of the people to undestand.
880 mV (milivolts) has proved to be the reading of the lambda sensor for best power. That corresponds to aprox. 12.7:1
You can get the reading of the lambda sensor by connecting it to a digital multimeter, 2000 milivolts range. The lambda sensor reads from 200 mV (too lean) to 1 V (1000 mV) (too rich)
It is a simple way to adjust your EFI exactly to what you want. 880 is without doubt the best power value, with a range from 850 to 900. Keep that number all over the rpm range and all over the throtle positions and you´ll be in the heaven of power! (begin the adjustment from 2000 rpm onwards!! NOT below that, since the engine may experience start problems)
One more advice: if you will use a lambda sensor, get a 4 wire one. This comes with heating device. Ask for advice at your local dealer of how to connect it to 12V.

ok number noted...I have mine hovering around 12:9 -13.2 at 100 percent throttle.. that is done with a LC-1 wideband 02 sensor and datalogger DL-32 from innovative motorsports http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/MTS.php ...I am tuned for U4 racing oxygenated fuel..

Plan to experiment with different ratios at the track down the 1/4 mile to see where I need to be for best power..2004 ZX-10R.

Have heard of a ZX-11 owner..(fast by frank article) also claiming 12.7.. will need to try it ...

I like the idea of the intake cam.. have had a bit of doubt whether it will benefit with out raising compression (replacing head gasket) as increase lift would normally ask for...not saying it can not work; just wondering..
