help with Butterflies

I have a 2004 zx10 with PCIII, full muzzy exhaust, and a k&n. I've read a lot about the benefits of taking out the butterflies and really interested in doing it. The only thing is for a custom map the local tuning center want $250, and I'm really not interested in spending that kind of money right now. Is doing it myself an option? If anyone knows how I can do this please help!

What I'm asking, is it a possible or a good idea. Is it possible to learn how to map?

Do you have access to a dyno with gas analyser, or are you talking about mapping it according to your 'seat of the pants' feeling of what it needs? If the latter, I'm not sure that would be possible.

I dynoed mine at Chris Hill's shop both ways. One way with the butterflies out and the other way with a TRE devise installed and flies installed. There was a ZERO difference between the two numbers. However I didn't dyno it without the TRE devise and flies installed. I'm sure you would see a drop that way. What we did see was a step at around 4k in the power with the flies out that wasn't there with them installed and the TRE devise. NO I'm NOT an Ivan fan!! BUT in this case that POS deal works. My bike make 171SAE both ways with a slightly fat fuel curve. It could have shown more power on the dyno had we leaned it out more, BUT I don't race dynos. It was 101 degree with extreme humitity the day we made those pulls as well and the bike showed about 2K on the clock. It gets faster every time I ride it and with every mile. I need to take it back for a touch up map. I LOVE MY 10R!! Best bike I've ever owned!! and DEAD SEXY tooo!!
