Radiator and noise ...
Sorry for posting so much, but you guys have been quite helpful. Got my clutch all fixed up, now i've run into a small problem, yet again. The brackets holding my radiator, (for my 05 zx10) have broken off. The person i bought this bike from used to race it, so im guessing thats why. I havent come down too hard on any wheelies to break them. So its just hanging there, meanwhile, the fan is slowly melting down from the pipes, so i need to fix it soon. Question is, ive run across a 2006 radiator, complete with brackets, brand new in the box for 150 bucks. Will that fit on my 05? if not, i suppose i'll have to weld some new brackets on. A new radiator costs 750 bucks from Kawasaki >< gg.
Second question...Does anyone else have alot more engine noise on their zx10 than others? ive rode my friends R1 and he has like absolutely no noise. the noise im hearing sounds like when gaskets go bad. crinkly type of sound... do those gaskets go out? my bike just turned over 10k miles and i cant imagine that. maybe the header needs to be tightened? any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks again!

The way that radiator mounts is pretty cheezy. The radiator will slip off the nub on the frame on the left side and then twist the other bracket till it breaks off. I would just weld it back up and I drilled and ran a self tapping screw with a washer on it right in to the end of the nub on the left side and havnt had any problems since. I dont think the radiator off an 06 is the same. My bike makes alot more mechanical noise then my buddys 06 r1 also. I would double check the header bolts and just ride the dang thing.

Hey man, I own an 04 zx10r and have since been on 2 different kinds of radiator for my bike.
The 05-06 zx636 radiators are a direct swap for the stock unit. Dimensions of the radiator are exactly the same plus it cools better too thanks to its 0.25 litre extra capacity.
I'm currently on the 06-07 zx10r radiator. This radiator has to be the best rad I've tried, with normal running temperature going down as much as 6 degrees on a hot (35-38 degree) day traffic.
To fit the 06-07 10R rad however is tricky. The top mountings are perfect but its the lower mounting (the one in between your header) that is problemetic. Using the stock 04 lower rad mounting will see a space between the mount and the radiator. Now you can either choose to cover that space with spacers... or do as I have and fabricate a simple bracket mount out of sheet aluminium. Twisting/bending your stock rad mounting works too but doesnt look as nice when you get down to looking at it lol. Just mount the 06 rad up normally and you'll know what i said makes sense.
Becuase the 06 rad is wider, it maxes out any available clearance between your fairings and the radiator. Due largely to this, you'll also need to cut part of your radiator cap away so it doesn't push against the fairings when you fit them. Water tight integrity of the cap is not compromised as only the cap cover is cut. Or if you could get a cap with a smaller cap cover, that'll work too! It's a lot of work for a simple rad mounting but trust me, the cooling is DEFINATELY worth it!

okay. i'll have to check it out. ive seen a few 06 zx10 rad's on ebay for 150 bucks buy it now. but have passed them up. When i priced out a new one for my bike, it came to 750 bucks YIKES. soo i'll look for the 06'. me and a buddy are gonna work on it, and try to tighten the header to the block, or replace the gasket, cuz the noise is getting worse. Also gonna have the valves readjusted, as im pushin 11k miles on my 05. I dont think the noise is the motor, it sounds like an exhaust leak. anyway thanks for the info, i'll definately try that out.

Just make sure you scrutinize Ebay pics thoroughly before commiting to the deal bro. Ebay's a dumpyard for damaged rads. Bent/broken fins are ok so long as they don't damage the integrity of the fin holders but visible dents on the rad are a big no no IMHO. My stock 04 rad leaked at high pressure due to a *minor* dent sustained in a crash on the lower left side...
At 10k miles, have you dont valve clearances? Your cam chain might be slacking.
