Bikeland familiar, '06 ZX10 beginner
Hey folks, I bought a salvage '06 ZX10 last weekend. Got it from Myrtle West in South Carolina, nice people, well run shop. Just got all the twisted parts off, and got a clear look at it. I have an untouched orange tank and sidecovers, various other bits, but this is pretty much the good stuff. Front tire still has the red stripe on it, bike has less than 1K miles I'd guess. Bone stock before getting sandwiched at a stoplight.
I'm about to close a deal on a subframe, fork/triple, and R rearset from a guy in Texas. The pipe is good to the backhalf, but I'll be in the market for a full system soon.
The plan is to set it up for naked land speed racing. Spraying to start, then turbo later on. It's a whole new world compared to the turbo ZRX, and I'm excited to learn a lot of new stuff, and finally get to play with fuel injection and all the modern goodies.
I've been reading this section of the board, but any advice is appreciated. Any critical mods I should perform? Things to check? I need a manual, anyone know stock cam timing? What's the best pipe (most power, not too concerned with noise or weight, ground clearance).
TIA,
Dean

Hi Dean: I have been following your ZRX program. You are progressing well in a difficult Pro catagory. Keep it going. You will have at least as much fun with this "little" bike. My main suggestion would be to pick a class and stick with it. Have the patience to buy the good stuff even if you don't get to run it until the Fall. I am sure you have looked at Maxton records, our's are near 190 mph on just motor but the A category is only 170+. Where else can you make 20+ runs in a weekend for $100.? Welcome. Larry

Fish, it's coming, don't you worry. The flies are coming out for sure.
Larry, (Forstall?) thanks for the kind words on the ZRX. I parted it out over the last few weeks, so the ZX10 is my one and only baby for now. I'm in no big rush, but I'm hoping to make the second Maxton event this year, and Bonneville someday. I was going to turn the ZRX into a LSR bike, but things didn't work out that way.
Do you have a webpage on your land speed exploits? That bike looks serious.

I dynoed my 10 with the flies out and with the flies in with a TRE device installed. Same day back to back within 1 hour. It made ZERO difference in power EXCEPT with the flies out it shows a slight stumble just around 4K when you wack the throttle to WFO on the dyno. I never dunoed it with them in without the TRE device I'm sure that would show a power drop.

Interesting. You'd think the presence of the blades in the flow path would restrict air in some way, but I accept your data. Is there a thread here somewhere that hashes this issue out? Did you put your flies back in? -Dean

Yea I did Dean simply because I use my sportbikes for corners and smooth power is everything. Granted when I'm really playing the game hard the bike never gets that low in the RPM range, BUT I also figured the same issue could happen ay most any RPM the throttle is snapped open. For drag racing purposes I would have them out and the shaft removed myself. All I know for sure is Fish_Antlers is GAY and fell under his 10R in the parking lot last year------------------------> Possibly he had a power stumble from removing his blades----------------------------> OR possibly he was bust looking at some young boy standing on the sidewalk and gapped his 10R to impress the young ladd in a Chicken Hawk Move

It can/WILL be mapped NOT to stumble...
I saw an increase (on 2-bikes for sure) with the SHAFTS OUT...
With a Fuel System Mod...one of them made 175HP 84Torq with the Ararta Exhaust...
Can't wait to start playing with Dean's...
