are there any zx10 drag bikes here

Hey, i was wondering how the zx10 did in the dragstrip and how many of you actually ride them like that. The comments would be really appreciated because atm i'm going to buy me either a zx10 or a 14 when i get home from iraq with my combat pay, but it's going to be set up for street and the strip. Thanks again for the comments and what not in advance...

I drag race mine in the summer months.. does well for mostly stock with 6" extended swing arm.... ZX-14 has shown to have more potential if dragracing is your goal...done 9.72sec 1/4 mile at 142 mph with my 04 ZX-10R...

will try to go 9.5's with sprocket change and fine tuning on race gas and secondary flies out next summer.. elevation air quality I race in is not the best; 3000 ft...still not bad considering I weigh a bit heavy at 205 lbs ...lots of fun ...

Have fun!!

dude, that's a really good run for your weight and i didn't mean anything by that bro...sorry, but thanks for the comment bro, i have been talkin to some ppl at the zx14 site and they are some really nice ppl that have given me some pointers on which bike to buy because i was either going to get me a zx14 or a 1000, but i really think i have made my mind up with the zx10 because i think i could get som really good numbers with the right mapping, 2 flys out, pc, cams, pistons, and a good solid aftermarket crank with some portin. What do you think bro, do you think it would be pretty quick on the streets? Hey aswell, do you know of anyone that would be selling a supercharger or a turbocharger that is hid within the fairings of the bike? thanks again brother, your comment really helped me out.

I agree ; a ZX-10R and all the mods you mentioned except without the high expense of a supercharger or turbo will be more than enough I would honestly say...with your weight you will fly...

Even without pistons.. just intake cams ,thinner head gasket to bump compresion a bit and aftermarket exhaust with powercomander and well tuned on a dyno should keep you happy for a quite while I would think...head work would be all I would add if not happy...thats my take on it..

Have fun..

thanks salsa1, really appreciate the advice, i know that you should never ask how much HP you're going to get from the add ons, but i was wondering with the mods that you mentioned, how much HP would i be able to expect and what do you think my times would be? Also, what is the difference between straps and lowering links? Thanks again for the comments.

Just a word of caution... get references before you pay for any builder... I only know this service is available and not 100% of their customers have been satisfied...just saying look into it before spending the cash..often sales folks inflate hp numbers some...

The link will give you a better idea of what to expect in terms of HP...

You times depend on your skill and suspension set up , tires and a few other variables...you should do 8's with head work near sea level at best.. that would be awsome with mods talked about...at least you should do low 9's

like I said it depends but you have potential as a light weight rider...

Straps compress the front forks down for less wheelie lower center of gravity which allows for more control off the line ;
\
lowering links lower" the rea" and also helps control your launches....

I recomend both and an extended bolt on swing arm with a shinko tire and change of sprockets...

No substitute for practice at the track...after 20 - 30 runs with above set up you should improve considerably is my guess .. the track and the street are kinda different...at the track you will really see what you are capable of and also your progress...give yourself time to learn at the track...

Have fun!!

salsa1, i want to thank you alot on helping me out with this new advice that i've just gotten from you. So, this is a noob ? lol but i am a noob to an extent as far as products and services on where to buy from, but you said that you would advise both of them. Does that mean that i can use lowering links and the strap up front? thanks again for the advice, it has really helped me out alot. I'm going to try to be the best that i can be because i'm wanting it to be a grudge bike, so that i can race the streets. Just hope that i don't get caught street racing because the outcomes are pretty high.

Yes both.. 1. straps lower the front and 2. links lower the rear of the bike..

"slaming" lowers the front end as well ; look into slaming as it helps riders under 5"8".. straps are only used during dragracing...it limits handelbar movement and meant for straight line only...your street experience will help.. never meant to imply you are total beginer at any time.. but the ZX-10R is a fairly powerfull bike... the track is a different world.. as you will see...

have fun...glad to be of help..

so, with the straps, i know that there are brackets. Will I have to permanetly keep taking the off and putting them back on, or is there something that i can just bolt on the the frame and just have it there permanetly so that i don't have to go through the hassle of having to remove all of the harwear and thank you for not implying that i'm not a beginner. Can i get some advise on which tire that i should use on the street and strip that's going to hook on both surfaces and still be able to put some good miles on them and where is a good site with good service and support to buy the straps and lowering links for me to slam my bike? All of the info that you have given me has been highly appreciated. Sorry if i'm holding you up also sir. LOL i really think that you are something like my informative or something because you're the only one still helping me with all of my ?'s but i'm very greatful. TM for everything. Spc Morris

No prob.

Brackets go on brake calipers.. they stay on permanent for street use .. then at the track you put "the straps" on to compress front end down deep into the forks... when you buy them ask the seller if you need to .. real easy.. will make more sense once you buy them..

You will need a different bike side stand if you lower as well..one that is adjustable..

I believe I got mine from Spencer cycle.. look them; call them ..they will help..for a sale.. lol

Shinko is what I run for street and strip.. but I am not a big on pushing the envelope about curves; I run my fun with 6" swingarm extensions.. shinko works for me very well.. it hooks up great at the track......

Thanks bro. How much does the shinko usually run you and where do you get your tires from? I just don't want to get a new hole ripped in me because i didn't know the reg. prices on the shinkos. I'm not really into the curves either.....the straight is so much more fun especially when you see the faces on the ppl that you just smoked try to speed by you like they just caught up and beat you......specially v-8 mustangs. Do you have a pic that you can post up of your bike on here so that i can get a general idea of what the strap looks like on your bike and about that swingarm that you have. Is it an extension that bolts onto your bike's factory arm or is it an aftermarket one? I have been looking at some extensions that will extend your bike 2-8 in. and i'm wanting it to be about 7 to 8, but it's an easy fix until i can get enough money saved up to get the real deal from tracdynamics. I really appreciate all of this info that you have given me and being so quick at getting it back to me.

Hey Morris at least get the bike first.... ...spencer cycle should have all you need at fairly reasonable prices.. they give good service over the phone on their products as well...shinkos run 100 - 130 dollars...

You can do a search on this site or on the internet as well for info on a lot of things.. I don't have pictures handy bro.. but not rocket science stuff.. nothing wrong with asking...you should probably get the bike first and lot of this stuff should make more sense...

Thanks for serving...have fun..

later..
