timing

Has anyone here dyno'd their 10 with the dynojet ignition nodule and different timing numbers. I'm trying to decide whether to buy one but if i'm not gonna get any power out of it I'm not going to bother.

there is a lot of relatively ez HP just lurking in todays engines

as a result of the epa
adding fuel.....adding fuel & adding air results in a Significant
increase og HP over the typical epa mandated stock condition

just a few years ago everyone was running a +5degree
ignition advancer.....resulting in better throttle response
better top end .....better stand up i didnt expect that 3rd gear wheelie

there is no secret that the new zx14 is neutered in 5 out of its 6 gears
1 way easily accomplished is ignition control
taking ignition out is the easiest & less negative means

therefor putting some back in is a no brainer
"netting out....or up" on the dyno is no big deal
recently a car magazine netted 30 solid HP on a honda car
impressive results
especially that it was mid range......where most will use & feel it

unfortunately too much ignition has distinct disadvantages
since the last decade of blind black boxes
few have the experience
back in the day we use to run as much as 50degrees of ignition advance

most engineers & mechanics go catatonic at that mention
i agree that would be an unnecessary extreme
depending on how youy are going to ride yourbike
the mods you make

the correct answer & direction is
"Yes" you can achieve very good results with advancing you ignition
the initial 5degrees & correct air/fuel ratio
should NOT present you any problems

then incremental increase of 2 degrees
on the very BEST fuel
no knock .....preigniton.... or detonation
can get you pretty close to optimum

all parametres met
will result in good top end....great throttle response
as well advance ignitions usually associated with road race type riding
long ignition advance is NOT good for launching a vehicle

shocks the tyres ......no less nxt to impossible to control
there is a big diff in setting up a drag vs road race situation
even tho
many make the apparent Mistake
"as long as im netting out on the dyno....must be Good"

simply aint so

good luck

I tried one on my 10 with no gains anywhere. I'm out $250.00. Dyno guy was laughing about it. Maybe it would be helpful for a nitrous or turbo bike but for me it was a waste.
Tried advancing in 2 degrees increments up to +6 but nothing. Even pulled timing out to see if it was hooked up and yes it lost power then. Now it sits in the original box after being used for a half hour. Never rode on the street with it so I cannot comment on throttle response.

I was talkiing to a dyno chappie at Ally Pally and he said that the 06 10 really wouldnt benefit that much from one, ergo I didnt buy it. Figured he must be an honest guy cos he coulda taken £100 off me no probs and told me I really needed one. Far better getting the fuelling right with a PC111 I reckon.

It seemed like to me when I put an ignition advancer on my old 1200 bandit the biggest difference I noticed was in throttle response. Otto I would be interested to see what you thought if you put yours back on for a street ride at like 4 degrees of advance to see if you noticed a difference since yours is just sitting there on the shelf. Just a thought. By the way thanks alot for all the useful information guys.
