quote: OK boys, here's the numbers:
2003 GSXR1000 official Suzuki specifications
- Primary drive ratio: 1.553:1
- final drive ratio -1 from stk: 2.625:1
- 6th gear internal ratio: 1.208:1
- Resulting overal ratio of engine speed to rear wheel speed: 4.924563:1 (o/a)
- Engine redline at limiter: 12,250 rpm (rpm)
- (rpm) / (o/a) = 2487.5303 rear tire revolutions at redline (rev)
- Circumference of stock sized tire: 77.9034" (tire)
- (rev) x (tire) = 193787.06 inches traveled in one minute
- / 63,360 = 3.0585078 miles per minute
Here It Is:
- x 60 = 183.51046 MILES PER HOUR!
That is in a perfect world with no wheel spin, enough power to overcome the aero drag, etc., etc., etc.
Are you satisfied yet that you were not going 205 MPH?!!!
Motorcycle gauges are incredibly inaccurate. When you say you've "seen" 192, one-eighty-whatever, this may rpms, that many rpms, it just doesn't matter.
You should have had me as your "liar", I could have had you pimpin' with your homies by suppa time.
Pop quiz for bkny ONLY, calculate for me how many rpm's you would have to turn to reach 205mph.
See ya' at the track.
Appreciate the stock numbers, that's information that would have made the difference between doing time or probation as my sentence. If you read my thread, I did not believe the radar's readings but I also did not doubt that it was a possibility at that time. Between your info and Otis's for sprockets sizings, I can lay that possibility to rest. As far as your pop quiz, just swap the 7 with the four and you should get your answer. (2487.5303 to 2784.5303) It should = 205.42081mph.

Looks like an ex alcohol funny car with a turbo charged big block chevy. Only thing is as far as I know there is no class for such a set-up. They must be bracket racing it or exhibition. those turbo motors can make some serious HP. could very easy be a 6 sec car in the 1/4

Speaking of welding, I do OK, I have a TIG, MIG, Gas, and stick welders in my garage. I had one to the best chassis builders in the world teach me a few tricks.
I am going to get some practice because I have a Cycle Factory Flat track frame, Kosman wheels, Ceriani road race forks, Champion Glass etc. that I am going to turn into a street bike. It originally was built for an Kawasaki F11m. But I am going to put a Yamaha 450WR motor in it (electric start, wide ratio) and paint it in the Yamaha / Kenny Roberts yellow and black. Kind of a nostalgic piece with a good motor and the thing should be hoot to build and ride. Wheelie effortlessly, and have that classic flat tracker look.
There is going to be some creative welding etc. I know one thing though, it is going to be a blast to build.

I am getting ready to pull the thing out of storage, previously I had bought a KLR650 motor for it and found that it was just too tall to shoehorn into the frame. So after a rethink I decided that the new generation 450 motors would be ideal as well as having electric start which is a must for the street. And the Yamaha nostalgia thing has alot of appeal, many of my flat trackers were Yamahas, the first one was an AT1M.
So anyway the 450 will fit, although I am going to have to be creative to make a radiator look and fit perfect ( I am anal as hell). I also have the rear suspension off of the KLR and I am considering building it into a monoshock setup,,,,maybe.
I will post pictures when I get it into my garage. My biggest problem is finding a motor, I would love to have a wrecked bike with a used up motor, but alas, me thinks I may have to buy a new crate motor and get bent over by the Yamaha dealer, with little or no chance of them using vasoline.
Yes I am changing the topic a bit, the gist of this whole thread was hijacked anyway. So maybe I can turn it into something productive after all.

The 450 motor to me is a much better feeling motor than the KLR motor. I would check around a few crash yards before going to Yamaha.

I had bought the KLR a few years back, before the 450s were popular. The 450s are like a long winded 250 two stroke with torque. This thing won't weigh shit, so if I pump up the motor the thing should be almost uncontrolable in the lower gears, in other words just perfect.

Bently, having been around drag racing for some time you may know my riding buddies, Richard Langson (former IHRA Top Fuel champ), Yuill Brothers (big time drag racers), Dave Miller( chassis builder, hot rod builder, numerious awards for building cars), Dave is the guy who helps me learn welding.

Sounds like you got a full plate in front of you...England??? Would love to go there for a few weeks...love the cultural atmosphere there. It's a toss up between there and Germany with Japan and Australia tied for third.

Well been to Japan several times, as well as China, and Germany. Never been to London and Australia is in my near future. I hate to travel big time, but London and Australia have been the only places I really have wanted to go to. I am only there for a week and the Australia trip will only be about a week.
