Inspect your clutch
The release shaft might be chewing up the pusher. The fix is to chamfer the slot in the shaft that engages the pusher. Also look for excessive wear on the basket and hub where the plates contact them. I saw a low mile 04 that had a lot of damage. The pusher was very close to failure.

I'll try to get some pics. I didn't see the basket or hub, just the pusher. It was nasty looking.

I am having that problem with my 05 zx10. I know it's been a couple of months since this was posted. Does anyone know who could repair this problem for me? I live in san diego and I've been to 2 different shops and it has not been fixed. Very frustrated and has been pretty expensive actually I just would like the problem solved money aside.

In San Diego you want to go to Poway Motorcycle. Tell them road rash sent you. Fish, the trashed part I saw is the central shaft that pulls the clutch spring plate, called a pusher. On one end it has a head like a nail. When you pull in the lever, a fork crudely carved on the bottom end of the release shaft (the thing you have to rotate all the way to the back if you ever want to get the clutch cover off) grabs the pusher, and the pusher pulls (why the FUCK do they call it a pusher, anyway? Suzuki has a pushrod, Ducati has a pushrod, yamaha and Kawi have a puller. Honda? Who fucking cares.) the clutch free. That forky thing needs to be smoothed out so it doesn't chew up the nail head on the end of the pusher. A quick tidy and polish with a Dremel should be sufficient. Drill out the other three oil holes in the back of the basket and cut three fingers off your slipper springs while you're in there. Ahhhh.... very nice clutch when thusly sorted.

Are the symptoms of this a squealing noise when the clutch lever is pulled in? I have this squeal and no shop I have taken it to can diagnose it. Pics would be helpful, I am at my wits end with this noise, and am willing to try anything to fix...........

A friend of mine had the same problem with his 04 zx10 and took it to poway motorcycle a few months ago. They kept his bike for 3 weeks (seriously they took 3 weeks) and they could not fix it. He had to pick up the bike after all that time and bring it to the dealership. He sold the bike so I don't know if the problem was solved. Anyone have another suggestion on who I could take it to? I would really appreciate it. Thanks

His was the bike with the roached pusher I think. Some of the 04's, mine included, have an oil supply issue to the clutch. Plates get tacky and it it won't release. I'll ask the Poway guys what happened with your buddy. Three weeks is about right. They have 40 bikes in for service at any time.
