Tell me about the 10R's Brakes, what's lacking???

It seems as if a lot of people aren't real happy about the brakes on the 10R. What's the deal, just not enough bite? I remember redelk talking about the lack of a radial master-cylinder a while back, but what else? I am once again considering a 10R, but I am looking hard at the Gixxers as well. In all honesty, if I felt like I could deal with the gixxer's ergos that'd be my choice. I went to the dealership Friday and sat on one (gixxer), didn't seem too bad, but I need some time on the road with one.

I've ridden one 10R back in '04 and payed little attention to the ergos because I was more interested in other things. But I got a ride lined up on another one this week if my buddy gets it back together. It's an '04 model. The better deals on used '05s is with the 10R. I've seen many in the $7500 range, and usually that's with a couple mods like an aftermarket can and whatnot.

I'm trying to hold out until the first of the year unless a deal I can't resist shows up. Right now I am trying to determine what my choice will be. 10R or Gixxer1k?

I run Galfer lines on my stock M/C, Vesrah SRJL 17 pads.

Hauls me down from 144 to 90 for the turn off the straight every time. I can modulate it OK for trailbraking.

A radial master would be nice. It's about third on my list of new hardware.

Ok, gunner......we've talked at length about the 10 and gixxer, so you sort of know where I'm at. Plus you, like Chris, have had a 12R. I had absolutely no issues with the 12Rs brakes once I put a set of EBC HH pads on there. Can I go to a more aggressive brake pad on the 10 and be happy?

I'm told SRJL17 will make you smile.. They cost a lot though.... like 200 bucks just for pads.. You can put the 636 master on for that.. WELL kinda...........You have to get 636 lines if you change to that master.

Fuck payin' $200 for pads. I guess the wave rotors make pad choices limited??? What happened to the good ol days when you could snag some HHs for $75?

I'm sure you can still get some pads for that.. I don't think the wave rotors limit anything actually. But from what all I've read and been told these SRJL pads are the shit..... Rick I know it's more than you said you wanted to spend but someone just listed a very nice 05 over at 10R.net .................It's Ti with a ton of carbon and all the bolt on goodies made.. Even wheels.. Very nice bike.. Take a look

i had bigtime issues with brakes on my 10R......but with some time I got them sorted, so they are very good...I put a set of Galfer braided lines on it, run RBF 600 fluid, and am currently running EBC HH pads....I like the Braking CM55 pads better, but they are far more expensive....if I were to do it again, I would go the same equipment, and change the diameter of the brakelines...and go to a larger ID line....more fluid transfer, and less heat build up.....

Whassup Jim??? I guess I am just a cheap motherfucker because I feel that it should have kick-ass brakes out of the crate. If I get one, initially all I want to do is upgrade the pads. Am I gonna be dissapointed??? As I said earlier, my 12R with EBC HHs was great to me. Is that something that can't be duplicated on the 10R without spending a lot of money?

Gunner, I saw that this morning bro. It's a sweet MF, but all the bling has the $$$$ up over what I'm willing to spend. Maybe me and my cousin Vito need to go look at it and persuade the guy into lowering his price to a more "acceptable" amount.

Braided lines are a given. If you are talking about the 04/05 it needs a bigger master cylinder. Radial or otherwise. Pads and rotors are fine. 06 I dunno. I suspect with the radial mc it's ok straight from the crate. Pads would be a question to answer when the oe's wear out.

Rick I have my stock can already guted if you want to use it till you get a pipe.. It sounds a lot better and seems to run a little better. Also front sprocket off a Z1000 fits and drops it 1 tooth and retains the damper for less whine...

I may take you up on that Gunner, thanks. A Z1000 eh, gotcha. That and a damper will be the first couple things I do I guess. May do the Heli Bars too, $250 is a bit steep though. I may fab some trick apehangers and do it up OG Style.
