Kaw zx10 '05 gear change problems!!
Hey everyone , I have a question to see if any one riding the 05 zx10, had this problem before. It's when you are in high rpm range around 9 or higher and you go to switch to the next gear and the gearbox will not switch? I have adjusted the Clutch lever and my oil is less then 2,000 miles all my lines look clean. Does anyone have answer to this or I just have to get it checked out by my bike shop.
Thks,
Dan

I may be your clutch not releasing. A few got fucked up by the factory. Next time it acts up, pull in the clutch and let it freewheel with the bike in gear. If that makes the shifting issue go away temporarily, it's the clutch. I've not heard of gearbox failures.

I noticed that when my linkage was off by a lot the shifting is harder ..made me suspect the tranny...might be able to improve by adjusting / rotating your shift pedal linkage some; just something to try...can't help with clutch if thats the problem.. good luck...

I had the problem. What was happening was when I am accelerating hard my butt is back in the seat so sometimes the shift lever is riding on the top of your boot. Make sure to push your toes down hard enough to release the shift lever so you can shift to the next gear. Happened when I got my new racing boots. Thicker than my old boots and that was what happened to me. Learned the lesson on my 12r. I was having trouble shifting up, it stayed in the same gear even wwhen I was lifting on it hard. I switched bikes with my daughter and she said it shifted fine. So I adjusted the lever up and that gave my foot clearance to release the shift lever. Made it a little harder gearing down as the lever was alittle higher but that was the whole problem. Because I figured it out when I missed a few shifts n my 10 I knew right away it was because I had not allowed the shift lever to return all the way down.

ninja turtle is making a good point..
I find myself missing shifts using my dynojet quick shifter; it calls for shifting with a positive upward movement and if I have my foot with any pressure upwards on the shift lever from the last shift I can fall short for next gear to engage..
I still blame Kawasaki but to help not miss shifts I purposely aim my foot / toes down away from shift lever between gear changes and come back up with more concentrated effort to help avoid staying in same gear.. critical for dragracing...still have to work on it.......
Hope this makes sense...this would never be a problem with my ZX-11and it's undercut gears but ZX-10R has it's few quirks...
