what is the real deal on the 636 master cylinder.
What is the real world advantages of replacing my 05's MC with a 636? Will I see a difference with a shorter stopping distance? or is it just the feel with a better initial bite? The 10R has good brakes its not as strong as my 954's but also its not that bad. Should I give it a shot if my 10 will never see the track?

From what I understand the radial master cylinder offers better leverage which allows for more displacement without loosing feel. But when I went to Laguna I saw the Brembo unit an I have to have one. It is one very sweet unit.

The stock mc is too small. Even a non-radial pump of sufficient girth is going to make a big difference.

If your 10 will never see any track time? No.

What generation 636 would be an exact fit? 1st or 2nd GEN?

Neither, unless you do the lines too. A braided kit for the 636 will be a match though.

I like the 636's brakes better, for sure. I think my next toy - should I continue to race the 10R - will be a Brembo m/c.
I've put some energy into the forks - I need more oil height - and it's starting to turn like the 636, but man, it wants to steer on the back wheel when I'm going spritedly, and I'm a front-wheel kind of guy - I'm OK with the wheels being out of line, but the bike is way more of a handful than the 636. I'm really coming to appreciate/understand that more and more as I get faster on it.
And sloppy brakes don't help.

Yah, I liked my stock 636 brakes better also. And I also liked the forks better. I'm 185 and have to use 1.0kg springs on the 10r to get it to stop bottoming at the correct sag. On the 636 .975 was the norm. I know its because I carry more speed and have to brake sooner and harder, but with 1.0kg springs its like riding on a latter around turn 2 and 8 at Willow.

It is a bitch to ride, ain't it? The front always wants to tuck if you give it half a chance and the gutless midrange means you have to boil it like a middleweight. Fucking thing does deliver the laptimes though. I was happy with the oe brakes, still run the stock pads even (3rd set), but the damn master cylinder is a tosser. I've only done 3 things to the bike (04): Penske 3 way, Scotts damper, and the Brembo 19x20. Each mod is, in my never too humble opinion, an absolute necessity. I don't sweat the forks too much. I don't think the front wheel spends enough time on the ground to justify it.

Can I still use my SS braided lines if I switch to the brembo MCs?

Yes if you don't mind ill fitting, twisted lines. It won't hurt anything, I ran a 02 gixxer for years like that. Worked flawlessly. If you get a set of lines made for the 636 they should work well with the Brembo. As always, your best solution is going to be custom lines. I'll try to post a pic of the set I made for my 04 with a Brembo MC. I run them outside the forks GP stylee, mostly because I change tires every time I ride the damn thing.
