Butterflies, TRE & answers for the 10R

Well yesterday was a dyno day for my 10R. So while on the dyno I decided to see if the TRE which I have works the same as it does on the 14. As we all know Brock just tested the TRE on the 14 and back to back tested it without the TRE and the butterflies out. I did the same except in reverse order and with a twist. I mapped with the plates out and TRE installed at once. Why may you ask? Simple answer is I already had the TRE installed and just didn't take it off for the test.

Now with the TRE tricking the ECU into thinking it's in 6th gear all the time there's another situation to think about and that's ignition timing. As we all know the TRE does nothing to alter the timing BUT with it you're locked to a timing map for whichever gear the bike thinks it's in NO MATTER what gear you actually have the trans in the ECU will access the ignition map for the gear it thinks it's in. This could be useful for a guy wanting to use the ignition module and have a known base for changes. This would include myself in that group.

The results are about as expected. With the secondaries out my bike made 171 with a slight hole in the power at around 4K when the throttle was snapped open for the pulls. It was mapped all the way across for the butterflies OUT! So it's safe to say the TRE was doing nothing except locking my ignition map to one gear.

With the bike sitting on the dyno I reinstalled the butterflies and pulled the motor again. NO NEW MAP for the reinstall just a repull. The graphs are exactly the same!! EXCEPT the stumble at 4K is gone.

The TRE does infact work on the 10R just the same as the 14. So I'm leaving my butterflies installed as I see NO use in having them out at this time. The bike makes 171Hp with them in or out except the 4K flat spot is gone. The fuel curb was a little bit fatter with them down low but that's cool by me. The extra fuel makes the bike smoother when you pick up the throttle mid corner and that's what the 10R is for!

As far as the ignition timing goes. I will say my bike only liked 2 degrees more at WOT. I had it at 4 & 6 and seen a loss in power.

All the runs were on the same tank of PUMP gas! 93 octane. It may make more with 89 but I wanted to be safe with the timing. All runs are same day and it was a HOT SOB!!! 101 degrees in the dyno room. It required a lot of cool down time between runs. Motor was always at between 180 and 195 degrees for every pull.

Also before you ask those numbers are SAE. The STD number was 174 and change.

If someone wants to post the graph I'll be gad to email it to them.

My bike has Full AKA pipe, PC, Ignition Module, BMCs, Coby Adams clean up Job on cylinder head, Kawi Intake cam, Thin gasket. Cams at 105/103 (They need more advance on the intake, BUT you have to go below .040 PTV for that and I didn't) And the bike has 1500 miles so it should get a little better in time.

Nice job gunner. 171 is sweet.
Daves not going to like to read this thread. I have a fealing he's going to want to change his cam timing again.

Do you know what your cranking compression is WOT?
I'd like to compare. Next time you have a plug out pump up a guage for me if you will.

Jesus that's a LOT of $ and work for a measly 9 hp. You need a new tuner.

Hell jump on in the water is fine. Getting 9 more from an already highly tuned motor damn sure aint easy. I know guys in NHRA ProStock that spend tens of thousands every year searching for 4 or 5. Maybe you guys should sell your tuning services.

On U4 that motor will produce damn near or right at 180 STD. Not too many 10Rs with stock pistons making more than that. Perhaps my tuner aint so bad after all.

He must be a god. 9 ponies, wowowoohoo. I'd pee on his tools. Just kidding. If you got a normal 10 that made in the mid 140's to mid 150's that ain't bad at all.

I'll be the first to say that the 10 don't give a lot of power from head work. The head on the 04/05 is big aready for the bore size. The work I done was in prep for more pistons later. I just ran out of time to get the work done if I wanted to take the 10 to the Gap rally we had in MAY. So it went back together with stock bore. It will respond nicely to the 3mm shit that will get stuffed under that cylinder head this winter if I don't start on a 14 instead.

It was also 101 degrees the day we done the pulls. NOT his fault I chose that day. Believe me I wouldn't have picked that day had I known the temp was going to be that HOT. I had him leave the little motor a little fat as well because I know when cooler weather gets here it will need some more fuel if I didn't. It may have had a little more left in it if we had leaned it out more. In fact I'm sure it would have from past history. I'm fairly satisfied with the numbers and the condition they were achieved in.

I got an awesome tuner here in Sandiego. Its actually the best in the Sandiego area. LEE'S performance. I picked up 12 rwhp. The bike already had an IXIL dual exhaust slipon before he did the custom tune. All it is was a BMC filter;PCIIIusb; emissions taken off, and Ivan's block-off plates. The test was done in 80 degree weather pumping out 165.56 horses. The tuner was amazed with the numbers because it put out more than a full system. He said maybe its a "ringer" or a good "break-in". I replied "It must be the Shell Rotella T and the 6 dollar filter!!! oh, and don't forget the Champion chain wax from Walmart! LOL....
