Not complaining but.. Gas mileage
When I first got my bike new from the dealer it wasn't full of gas, so like at 25 miles I filled up. I went 90 miles on my trip meter and the gas light came on today. I was shocked since on my 02 zx6R I got like 150ish or more till had to go to reserve. So i find a gas station at 105 miles on the trip and fill up. It took 3.4 gallons and I believe the tank is a 4.5 gallon tank. Doesn't seem like i'm doing nearly as great w/ my carb. 600, but I know this is a race bike. 30 miles to the gallon is what i'm gettin and isn't bad just expected more. Anyone else check there mileage? Also at what point should the fuel light come on and how much gas should be left. thanks..

okay dude.. the injectors are 395cc per minute huge. If you have a pc3r you might want to tune for 14.0 to 1 air fuel instead of 12 or 13 for power...

well not gonna retune it, figured they were large injectors. Just have to drive the 600 more often on longer trips.

GOT A ZX 1400 AND GET ABOUT 43 MPG.....HAD IT ABOUT 3 WEEKS...ALSO GOT A 250 NINJA FOR THE WIFE..... GREAT LITTLE BIKE ...GETS 80 MPG....LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gas milage, I've noticed, is inversely proportional to the angle of my right wrist. First tankful through my '06 10R was 38.8. Since it was new I wasn't flogging it though. Checked my wife's Ducati S2R last night when I filled up the ZX and it was 45.6. Her GS500 would get in the high 50's. When I picked up my ZX on Monday there was a guy in there picking up his second new 250 Ninja, at 80 mpg I know why.

With my '04 I would consistenly get 43 mpg. I even got as high as 50 once. My '05 doesn't do as well however. I have been getting no better than 40 and the last tank got about 38. It hasn't been getting as good mileage lately for some reason. One thing that I noticed with fuel injected bikes also, is that in the winter time when it is cold (20's or colder) that the mileage will drop a lot. Every fuel injected bike that I have had did that while the carberated bikes remained the same.

Simon: I've noticed around here that the reformulated fuel in the cooler weather knocks about 15% off the fuel economy of our Impala. The TL gets great milage if ridden easy but horrible no matter the weather if you don't. The only carburetted bike we have is a 1990 Suzuki GS500 and it never gets ridden in the winter. My wife and I are going on a trip this weekend and I'm anxious to know how the ZX does. I'll report when we get back. Shouldn't be too bad as the bike is too new to flog too hard.
Since your milage is off have you changed service stations where you fill up or something or is it running worse too. I'd like to know if you solve that mystery.

On my first tank I got about thirty mpg and has been going up every time I check it. Last week got 43 and was pleased. I have noticed that the low fuel signal seems to come on early and also blanks out the odometer which seems kind of dumb. If you hit the reset it will show miles again, but not very handy. The R1 turns on a low fuel light then starts counting miles from when the light came on. Wish the 10 did that. Hope it gets better with a few more miles.

So far filled up at diff. gas stations everytime. This time around I got 34 instead of 30, so see how my next one does and i'll report back. Fuel light does come on early w/ I think a gallon of gas left.

Almost everything on the road could be getting 20-30% better MPG?
Do Busas still say 87 RON required in the owners manual like they did in '99?
I never had an open bike that wouldn't get 44-50 MPG at 70MPH until my 2000 ZX12R.
And I've nearly had 1 of each since my '70 Mach III.
My 14 is struggling to get to 40 MPG also.
Probably an illusion.

the throttle bodies on the zx10r are big for the size of the engine.. 43mm for 998cc. Heck the zx14 throttle bodies are only 44mm and 1352cc. The zx12r's are larger at 46mm. Race vs sport touring. Tuning the power commander to stay at 14.7 to 1 air fuel and the gas mileage should be good
