Exhaust Packing

I hope someone could help me. This guy told me that if I pour water down the muffler that the packing will burn up and it will give you a louder sound and more horsepower. Is this true? Will this damage the bike at all? Its sounds dangerous to do.

Sounds bloody stupid to me. The packing is designed to withstand very hot temps so dont know why water would burn it.....surely it would cool it if anything and then just turn to steam? If you want a louder sound then buy a race can for it and get one with a removable baffle so you can quieten it down again at will by either reinserting or removing baffle at will. Loads of companies make them now.

more HP thru less packing? pure bullshit.
if it is a CF pipe, then that will definitely damage the can,or at least accelerate discolouration.
as to it being louder, sure it will be louder but not a nice sounding louder. besides, do you really hate your neighbours that much? i assume this is an aftermarket system so it is bound to be on the loud side already. if you do have a stock system, just get an aftermarket slip-on. not sure if stock cans even use the same type of packing as AM systems anyway?

It works better if you use turn signal fluid.

Doesn't sound too bright of an idea to me either. If it would burn the packing out why would you want to do it? Mufflers that have the packing burned out sound like crap. Stock cans do not use packing at all. They have internal baffles instead of packing. That is why you don't have to repack a stock muffler and one reason to keep the stock pipe also.

No. The halogen stuff is synthetic. That's why it costs more.
