What you are experiencing is about right; I get wheelies in second while shifting kinda hard in the mid to higher RPM and in third with a little more effort high in the power band ; difference is mine is geared down a lot I run 15/41. I weigh about 200...

I believe I got power wheelies with stock gearing in second a few times... certainly not in third... altitude here is about 1300 ft... your ZX-10R is normal to me .. don't see any problem..

you can't go by how easily others say a bike wheelies cause individual definitions of "it wheelies" seem to vary tremendously. some mean pure power wheelie (just hold 'er open), others mean snapping it full open, others a quick close to compress the forks then snap open, some add yanking on the bars, different seating positions, and some will include clutching it up i'm sure. i could never get more than a few inches off the ground in 2nd with my 12 (using close then snap open with a yank), yet others swear they got power wheelies in 2nd or even 3rd.

the taller you are , the more rearward the weight bias, so that will have some effect too.

Hmmmm, it does 100 mph in first gear!
how fast do you want to wheelie crossed up, an into a tank slapper?

I don't know maybe it is losing power for some reason or maybe the clutch is slipping just a little.when i first bought the bike like after two weeks did my 1000 mile break in to perfection(very hard by the way),and i'm ready to open this mutha up.So i head to a long back road to see what it will do,go to third gear part throttle ,at 6,000 rpm i nail it and lean over the front in a tucked in position at 125 mph it comes up and scares the ever loving shit out of me! Remember this is my first bike so i didn't know what to expect. Ever since that day it has never done it again.oh ,and there was no dip in the road to help it come up I went back and looked ,flat as a board.whatcha think about it?

Almost certainly your seating position.
I am just finding out how much difference it makes with the 06 model.
Bum back and flat on tank will bring the bars up faster than you can imagine, where as just putting a bit more pressure through the pegs ie suspending your own weight and then leaning across the tank stops any such sillyness in 3 rd gear and most of the sillyness in2nd.
You describe tucked and leaning over the front that sounds like the typical prone position which will get the front up no problem but you may not have realised but as you got used to the machine you are probably expecting that sudden burst of acceleration more now and are consequently not just leaning forward but weighting forward which is why she isnt coming up.
Go back out shuffle your ass back an inch or two and see what difference it makes.

Yep, seating position. I can sit up straight on any new 600 and it will damn near flip over. I can lay down on the 10 and keep it down in 2nd and 3rd.

Mine is a pig. I have to bang it in first to get it to come up. 2nd and 3rd, forget about it.

Mine comes up in 2nd and 3rd, if you call a sudden throttle close/open snap (at 8K or higher) with pull up on the bars a "power wheelie"...coming up under straight power at 10K in 3rd with no pull or throttle snap close/open? I guess it could be done, but doesn't seem likely... now...going through all the gears against my bud's Busa...I can take him all the way past 150...so I don't think I have power loss, yet I can't get her up in 3rd by just snappng the throttle, even at 11-12k...

freek my 12 would straight power wheelie in 2nd with me sitting in my normal everyday riding position.....so will my 10.. When I clutch wheelies on the 10 its in 3rd gear at about 80 MPH on the speedo, then it comes up nice and smooth and is very manageable, problem is when you get it balanced you are going near 100 mph......lol

I now have 1200 miles on my 06 zx10r. This is the sickest bike I ever owned ... bettter than all 3 of my r1's. Just wack the throttle open in 1st (EASY) and the front will lunch at 50-55 Every Time with No Assist until 75 with out trying or assisting. 2nd will pull up around 70 but its just a little to fast with side winds to bring it all the way up.

I was doing around a 100 over the weekend and I down shiftted from 4 to 3 and feathered the clutch and she wanted to come up .... it was a total oops but scared the shit out of me.

anywhere above 50 at any time just hit the throttle anyway and it will the come Straight up in 1rd untill 75 no matter what postion ... you can hang over the front it doesnt make a difference.

Also this is NOT Screaming the motor !!! I typicallly wheelie with all stock gearing and all stock bikes with 1st then to 2nd ... always.... this DAWMN thing just doesnt need 2nd because it is sooo powerfull and tall in 1st.

SICK ... SICK ... SICK ...... I have gotten use to the riding postion and now it feels RIGHT.

One last note .... I considered trading it in for a 06 GSXR1000 because I Hated the Riding postion for the first 300 miles or so .... who would of guessed ... now I LOVE IT and joined the LOVE it group .... i did order the $550 Harris fully adjustable Rearsets ... out of order will get in a month or so.

I LOVE THIS BIKE !!!!!! and Im a die hard CBR, GSXR, and R1 guy but this thing ROCKS !!
