06 ZX10R, the tradition continues..........

Hi

I recently purchased Bike magazine (UK publication) as i was looking to buy a new 1000cc sports bike and they had just carried out a test on the new GSXR1000, Fireblade, R1 and the 06 ZX10R. I had before reading this been on the verge of buying the Suzuki.

The upshot of this test was 3 of the testers rated it last, 1 (Tom Bedford) rated it 1st. He differed from the other 3 (they all felt the GSXR was the best) for the following stated reason...

"The Suzuki is probably the best bike all-round, but it doesnt excite me like the Kwak. I like the raw edge that Kawasaki build into their bikes:it gives them a character none of the others have-and of the 4 bikes it has the best finish........"

The ZX10R produced 164.9 BHP at the back wheel (the most on test) was the only bike with a 50/50 weight bias had the highest top speed (177.8 MPH, restricted to 300KPH) and had the loudest exhausts (an incredible 100Db at 5500rpm).

All of the testers agreed that the ZX10R required the most rider input as it had a "ballistic" engine and would wheelie at the slightest hint of throttle. All of the other bikes were "safe" and "easy" to ride fast.

So, it appears that Kawasaki are continuing there long and glorious tradition of making raw, visceral, edgy, mind-bendingly fast, arse twitchingly exciting, character riddled, up yours Health and Safety nanny state, hooligan bikes.

Went straight out and purchased the first green one i could find, why?

Cause if i wanted safe i wouldnt ride a bike, getit...................................

Very well put.
Even on my "hard to handle/ heavy/slow-ass" 12R, I hang just fine with all of the "perfect" sportbikes.

The other 3 testers rated it last? Why?

Hi

They rated it last because it wasnt easy to ride and didnt feel as safe as the Gixxer........

Go figure

Thats TWO extra bikes Kawasaki have sold because of that mag then.
No One should ever buy a 1 litre sports bike vecause its the sensible choice, if thats your aim then get a 600 and save loads of money. You get a 1 litre bike cos its gonna scare the bejeezus out of you and you want to see if you can tame it and better your riding skills in the process.
So you go out and get he most badass bike there is to get and that is the Kwacker at the minute. Obviously still running in but i just love the way the front rises about 7000rpm in just about any gear. If i cant master wheelies with this baby then i have no hope.
Oh and as for the not being safe or giving the rider confidence i honestly dont know what the hell they are on about? The weather has been crap, horrible roads with salt and grit everywhere and the bike feels rock solid to me so winding up the wick a bit for the summer when better grip is available should be a hoot.

What a hoot! You guys across the pond usually have the most ballsy bike mags and reviews out there. Now they talk about "safe and easy". I guess the IoM should be safe and easy, huh?

Congrats on you guys purchases and I'm glad to see they didn't poison your reason for living!
