Dumping the cans

My local dealer who has generously gifted two 06 ZX10s to a couple of local racers has just had the two bikes dynoed in stock trim straight out of the crate and both remarkably mad pretty much the same 163BHP at the back wheel with only 1.9 miles on the clock.

However, they then went about stripping the entire exhaust off and replaced it with another titanium jobby and new racing air filter. Back on the dyno and only 165BHP being made. Onbly this time no bottom end or midrange to talk of as the exhaust valave was now missing. Obviously a power commander will release a good few more ponies and 180 should be easily achieved at the end of the day.
My point is that even with 2 catalytic converters and a standard air filter they must be good qaulity as they obviously are not strangling the engine at all as there removel only liberates another couple of ponies. In the past dumping the end can and cat would be enough to release a fair amount of extra power but not with this baby.
Just thought you might be interested.

Proves factory engineers spend lots of time on the delivered set up...but then again without a power commander and good custom map hard to expect the best....
