Whats up with the 06 '10?

THIS IS NOT A FLAME BAIT (I know I know most people say that and then bait away - but most people who know me on the board know I bleed green ).

I was just at my local dealer looking for new tires for my 2000 '12... and well.. of course looking at new bikes. I've been thinking about a new zx-10 as opposed to switching over to the upcoming zx-14. I'll keep the '12 for mid-range cruising but I need a corner carver, as I've been getting more into racing. I noticed that the '10 was actually listed as REDUCED below MSRP? What gives? Its the begining of spring and they are REDUCING the 10? I also noticed that the 06 R1 was full price?!? Is the 06 10 not as popular for some reason? Isn't it the "fastest" (at least from a magazine racers perspective) 1000?

Almost forgot - I'm actually kinda psyched about this... maybe I can get a '10 nice and cheap, just worried there is something I should know...? Maybe I should look for a decent used 05?

I canassure you nuttin is "reduced" where I am... I paid a visit to my dealer and there were no reductions.. just full pop...

WOOHOO! I think she's going for 10,500 at my place - if its cheaper, let me know!! Maybe I'm lucky enough to get a deal!? there are 2 black ones I think...

Heh. just goes to show you, magazine reviews sell more bikes than their actual prowness.

Notice how little overall press the 10R received early in the year.. compared to say the new R6. While the press was good, it was limited in focus (just the relase @ Japan), and most of the reviews I read were actually quite dull. Not to say that the bike's performance was dull in the least, but that they didn't have a new gizmo's or breathtaking #'s that the authors could highlight & headline in their articles. You can't blame them, really; they're just trying to sell their product as best they can, and new gizmo's and #'s do just that. Notice also the HUGE amount of press the new R6 received from every major publication, and all the wiz-bang shit they could sidebar and headline in these impressive cover shots and center spreads.

Now, the black 10 at my local shop sat for weeks, waiting patiently for me to work up the nerve to buy it. In contrast, you couldn't even SIT on an R6 anwhere in my county, or even in the next major city.. they were all sold before they came out of the crate. Now, even considering the 1500 dollar price difference, do you think the little yammy is a better pefromance bike? If the whole world would have hyped this bike (the ZX) the way they did that one, the R6, (which is quite easy, as it just about clobbers it in any perfrmance aspect... and I will honestly say that the yammy is the only other sportbike uglier than the new ZX ) you'd have a tough time trying to find one. It doesn't hurt to fudge your actual redline figures, either

Just my 2 pennies, of course

P.S. first post and all... absolutely loving this new bike. I like ugly bikes, and it is certainly faster/more capable than I will be for many years to come. Pretty good site too, btw!

The 10Rs are also making stupid power this year, I've now seen 2 reports of over 167hp at the wheel for a stock bike. That's more HP than any stock 1000 has ever made, and that includes the 06 gsxr 1000...yet nobody is talking about it, and it won't even get a mention in the mags.

You guys have got it easy over in the states,$12K tops for a ZX10R, i just paid £9000 here in the UK which is about $15K at current exchange rates. RIP off Britain its called. Poxy governments.
Totally agree about R6 its had massive publicity and its pretty ugly as well not too mention the fact they told a load of porkies in the sales build up about 17,500RPm....yeah right !

Just goes to show that Kawasaki are still bringing up the rear so far as marketing spend goes cos this all adds to the sales war. The more you spend and entertain your jouno's the better coverage you will get. ( I am in Marketing and thats the way it is , irrespective of product)
At least two mags over here have dynoed stock bikes at 165 bhp and it got barely a mention . One though did admit it was the most power they had ever recorded on a production bike, but no more about it. Trust me if they had got figures like that from a Gixer, Blade or R1 then the whole world would have known about it as the manufacturer would have just taken more advertising space to ensure it hit the headlines.

Well - my dealer has a few 10r's on the floor that are going for 10,500 I think - I'll check if anyone is interested, just let me know.

well here in south africa i bought my '05 10r for R108 000 & the '06 is going for R99 995. KHI is just gonna dominate the market @ that price. I'm sure they make enough on oil tankers to build bikes just for fun...
