Ti help please?
Is it a BAD idea to powder coat ti? I want to put hi-heat black on my 10r pipes, but then I remembered you can't wrap ti, so I'm assuming you can't coat it either.
Somebody please tell me I can do this

Titanium can definitely be powdercoated.
As for the heat from the exhaust wrecking the coating, I'm not sure about that. I believe jet hot or one of the other exhaust coating services has a black finish that looks just like black powdercoat...I'll check around on that for you.
Edit: I looked it up and jet hot can't coat titanium exhausts.

jimzx9r, are you absolutely certain it's safe to do?
From what I understand from a few years ago, guys were saying you could't wrap the ti headers or they would crumble into oblivion.
Is it a breathing thing or what?

I am 100% certain titanium can be powdercoated...but unsure whether or not titanium exhaust parts can be coated due to the heat. I worked with titanium for years, we regularly shipped Ti parts out to be coated for customers. None of the parts I worked with ever had to sustain any temps like an exhaust pipe, though. If Jet-Hot won't coat Ti pipes, I don't think any other reputable shop would.
In my opinion, exhaust wrap eventually destroys any pipe regardless of what it's made of. Apparently with Ti, the wrap just kills the pipes even faster.

I seached a bit more...it's a definite no on coating a Ti pipe. It's titanium's rapid cooling properties that allow it to be used as an exhaust. When you take that property away by coating or wrapping it, it becomes extremely brittle and will eventually crack.

Jim (?), thanks for taking the time to research what I can't find the time to do.
Looks like it's time for plan "B".

You're welcome. Are you going to leave the Ti pipe on the bike or go with a different one?
