Kawa-tolerance
Hei, excuse me for my bad English, but i have a question for you, so i will try too make it understandeble. And by the way, i am a die hard Kawafanatic, i drive a ZX9R E1 and ready to upgrade.
I was at this Suzuki dealership; checking out the GSXR1000 when the mecanik come over and starting too talk with me, I told him that i was a Kawa-fan, but was in the market for a gixxer since i cant get along with the local Kawa-dealer, then he told me (trying too convince mee that gixxer is best) that Kawa has less tolerance on the motor-parts(bigger clarence) and thats why Kawa are making more noise and are harder too sell.
Have you experts heard this before, and do you think this could be tru?

My wife has an 03 ZX9R which I ride quite often along with my 12r. It sounds like you have a rogue dealership. If you have the warranty in my experience they will fix the motor parts as part of the warranty. This happened on my friends 01 ZX11. By the way a zx9r with akrapovic and jet kit will walk the 01-04 Gixxer 1000 on the top end! I have done it many times doing roll ons with my buddy. Muzzy also stocks a 998 kit guaranteeing 160 plus RWHP.
I guess I'm trying to keep you in the kawi family hope this information helps.

Less tolerance would mean the opposite of what you were told.
The ZX10 is noisy due to the twice engine speed the generator is driven at.
Lots of information to be had at alot of different websites - type in almost any bike model and spend some time - you'll see certain consistencies the more you read up on the subject.

He he i guess i'm not that good in English
First ; i have no issues with my ZX9, the noise i'm refering to is Kawa in general.
Second ; D; i guess i was wrong when i said "less tolerance" and it should be "higher/bigger tolerance".
I have never heard this from anybody else before, i read alot of mags and frekvent a lot of different Forum. I guess this Suzuki-mecanik was only out to bash Kawa.
Since i am getting old i thaught it was time too move to a more girl-frendly bike like Gixxer1000 ))
Thank you for your answer.

Girl friendly indeed.
The mechanic sounds scary to me. Engine parts run close tolerances. No manufacturer is going to "open" machined tolerances to a wider setting. Oil pressure losses will occur. Parts will be physically loose when new. It just doesn't make sense. Think about it.
When someone talks to me like that, they lose credibility. They do not know too much about engines they work on, nor basic engineering. Ignore the guy's statement.

Yes, i guess so speedgene, i can not buy a bike from a dealer with a mechanic (hey, this time i got it right ) like that, i just got too get tougher and drive too the next Kawa-dealer, which is 3 houers away and buy a MAN's bike (ZX10R )

If kawsaki has such poor tolerances why did it take my zx10 a good 1500 miles to really loosen up?I'll admit the motor makes more than average noise but being quiet isn't what it was designed to do kick a gixxers ass is,just my opinion 10000 miles and no trouble here

That was my thaughts as well, Kawa and Honda motors always need som more miles to loosen up, and they last some more miles too.

I think all the companys are pretty close as far as durability goes at least in the high performance area

If anything the tolerances are tighter. hence the long break in, as thundermonkey said. Most of the noise comes fron straight cut gears, light weight cases, and a generator running at twice the speed of the crank.

Hello,I just noticed your comment for the so-called "tolerance" and I have to tell you that the Suzuki guy is telling you bull!!! I have had 2 ZX-9R's ('94/'02),1 KLR 250 '90 and 2 KLR 650 ('03 Standard/'04 SuperMoto) and I can tell you that they all make "noise". This is typical "Kawasaki" RAW way of running the motors!!! And, for the story, here's what my (Kawasaki Official Service) mechanic told me: "IF IT MAKES NOISE,IT'S OK. IF IT DOESN'T, SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH YOUR KAWI...."
Best Regards,
Panos,Athens,GREECE.
