Changing the gas tank on a zx10r?
I am changing the gas tank on my 04 10r and is there anything I should know? I bought a tank by itself, it does not have the fuel pump, so I am going to take the fuel pump off my old tank (current tank) and switch it over to the new tank. Is it a pain in the ass or pretty easy? Just a few screws? Sealing, etc? Anything I should know, not being a highly skilled technician or anything?

it's plain and simple. take off the both seats and panels under front seat. big O-ring seals the pump to the tank. lots of people screw up the fuel line clip. be carefull not to get a shot of gas to the eyes when taking the line off. lightly push the back side(open end) of the ORANGE clip together while pushing sideways. it' won't fully come off the fuel line. the fuel pump bolts are only 89in. lbs. so DON"T go crazy with the torque.

When I did mine I loosened the fuel line. I then turn kill switch on and off and emptied the the tank into a gas can. After I did this there was only about 5 onces or so of fuel left in the tank.

Does the o-ring need lubing or oil, etc? Anything, or just replace it and screw in?

the o-ring lays on the tank and don't put any oil or anthing else on it. as long as the o-ring is soft and flexable it should be able to be used again. it's very easy to do this.
