Removing Secondarys ??

Have any of you guys removed the secondary butterflys from the throttle bodies on the 10? After spending a little time with the air box off studying these I fail to see the need. Why do you need the ECU deciding how much air can flow into the motor? I understnd that they're suppose to give better responce down low, but is this true or are they just restriction? I can't think of any ultra high HP aplication that has secondarys.

Its up to you. Yes you are right, they work for low end throttle response and middle range power. And they do work for that. Dirt bikers ad aftermarket Powernow kits to there carbs to increase throttle response, doing so they lose about .2hp at the top. Not very much.

It doesn't seem to me that when full open they could be much restriction at all, especially considering that they're "drafting" the other one anyway.

Almost for sure they do give a benefit -- kind of like the saying of that suspension firm, "The best you know is the best you've ridden," I thought the 2003 throttle response was good, and now in retrospect I would still say it wasn't bad, but the 2005 (with the secondaries) is a considerable improvement no doubt: excellent.

Kind of like the difference in throttle response between good CV and flat-slide, but with no downsides at all (other than theoretically maybe a fraction of a hp from the tiniest bit extra drag) and actually better than CV.

Of course you've experienced the 10's throttle response yourself... compare it to your 2000 Twelve, and most or maybe all of the difference in throttle response quality is probably due to those secondaries.

The 10 is way better than my "A" model 12. I'm just trying to lay down plans for ungrades to the 10. Some guys have already done this mod I'm sure. I'm hoping for someone to speak up.

By the way what I've noticed so far about the 10 is the Piss Poor air box design. It's amazing to me that the thing makes any power. The box is so small that it appears that for every breath it takes it's breathing clean out the front of the fairing. I guess that's what accounts for the intake grawl from the 10. There is a company in the UK that makes a bigger Air Box but it's over a grand!!!! I'm thinking about 3mm overbore and Coby head work for the 10. I'm sure the bigger airbox would really come into play there. Then again maybe I'll just take an asprin and go to bed and forget it. Probably NOT
