I took mine out. It's a PITA to say the least. I wouldn't do it again. Slip on exhaust are too cheap to buy for that kind of nonsence.

Popping noise won't go away with a slip-on.

u sure it's due to the cat? wouldnt the cat make ofr LESS poping as there is less unburned fuel in the exhaust after it?

Popping is due to air injectors in the exhaust. The fresh air injected creates an environment for the unburned fuel to burn. Not sure how the system works on the 10r, but removal or disabling of it would probably cure it. Would make for stinky exhaust, though.

perhaps the popping sound you are refering to is the cracking the muffler makes after ignition shut off?? (when the cat/muffler is cooling down)

Perhaps your helmet is too tight, xl. Sheeeeeeeesh. Hey toots, just blow a big hole through the cat (a long chisel works the best I think) and drill out the baffle plate behind it. Then disable the KLEEN thing. If you need more info just ask. Lotsa people have done this.

or why bother at all since you just stated you're getting a new pipe.
look... the cat is in the muffler on this bike, so if you havent figured it out by now, ditching the stock can and getting any slipon will get rid of the cat for you.
the popping sound will stay.
so there.

fish, Do you have a zx10? Do they all make that noise? I dont think so. I have a sportbike group with some 360 members and out of all them, several have zx10's. None of them say that about theirs when they get a new pipe.

The "popping and/or backfire" will be more obvious with an aftermarket Slip-On for many reasons. Some 10's do it, some don't.
ispyrebel - yes, fish has one of the first 10's and was one of the first people in North America to ride them; long before the dealers had them.
