Ok the bike shop just called said the bike is ready for p/u?....they had the bike for 2 days...and said they checked the wheel balance on front and rear wheels..re-balanced the front wheel...stripped down the front-end and re-torque to spec and said it rides ok now?....I test ride it over the week-end and let you guys know.....
I did a search on both web boards zx-10r.net and this board...and there seems to be much debate on headshake (some do some don't) fitting of dampers and such...I just hope they 9dealr)where able to make it a least rideable....because whats the point of having a liter bike and you can't even open it up in a straight line on the freeway let only a bumpy canyon road or @ the track????........steve kelly

Ok rode the bike in to work today...(I've got a stinking cold right now) did not really hammer it,but took it up to 130mph quickly and seemed ok?...Although I must say the bike still seems real nervous...at speed?..does not seem planted too the road like most bikes @ speed...The dealer told me they re-torqued the headbearings..but the bars still move very freely...I will probably suspend the bike and check it out myself to make sure..
I have a feeling that I gonna have to invest in a damper?....I know this is a ongoing debate on all zx10r message boards...some people saying there bikes are rock solid @ speed others unstable..
But my bike is real nervous @ speed.......!!...steve kelly

change out the tires, and check your air pressure....my bike seems to like lower pressures no matter what tire is on it....on the street in the Pilot Powers i run 34 front and rear, with the 218's I was running 33 f 35 rear

I would have to say many of the liter bikes feel a little "nervous @ speed". That's not too unusual. And if you've been in some speed wobbles or tank slappers, they can be hard to forget, so it may continue to feel nervous until you get use to it.

There is no doubt that the 10 does feel more twitchy than say a ZX12 or Busa. Lightweight and big power does that. As time goes by, and you get more use to it, set the suspension up for you, and find air pressures that make it more stable, you'll adapt to it. Just work your way into it. It doesn't matter how long you've been riding and/or your experience, it can still be a little nerve-wracking. The advantage is that your experience will help you overcome it.

Ok guys I rode the bike tonite over to a friend of mine (engineer & biker) and we suspended the bike and the front headbearings where loose?.
I not going to say who the dealer was that I left it with (don't want to get into an online pissing match).I think from the outset the headbearing must have come loose from the factory....and this was the reason the bike was so unstable @ speed...I had some other issues with the dealer (scratched bodywork which has been ordered for me) . And I wanted to have the warranty issue on paper in case the handling issue was unfixable.
I'm not sure if the dealer really did anything to my bike now?...maybe they tightened the bearings some?.but once we had the bike up in the air the front end would flap from side to side and felt loose for sure...we removed the top clamp and tightened up the bearing a little...we still had lots of free play and the bars moved freely and still would fall from side to side..but felt a little firmer (for a better word)....I going to ride it for a little bit and will check the bearing again in a few hundred miles..
On the ride home from my buddys place I opened it up good from (about 70mph)second gear got a very very slight wobble around 130mph and was stable up to 145mph.....the bike is definetly better...still not rock solid stable (may still have to cinch up the head alittle more?)...I really like the power of the bike comes in real nice.....I guess the moral of this thread is..if you want something fixed your going to have to do it yourself.....
I'm looking forward to changing out the tires (although I'm sure the dunlops are not as bad as people make out, rode my CBR600rr on the stock 208's @ willow for a few sessions and they were ok actually) I will probably ride the stock tires @ the track while I get use to the bike and then put on something a little more sticker....thanks for all the answers from all you guys...p.s quick question where can I buy the correct tool that will fit the castellated nut that holds the bearing tight??and want is the recommend torque....thanks..Steve kelly

mine headshaked real bad as well. I drag mine so once I broke it in I dropped it down and extended it and it took all that shaking away.

I am not going to say mine is rock solid, I would describe it more like dancing around. Which doesn't bother me a bit. I kinda like it and really don't pay that much attention to it.

Ok guys
Little up date on my headshaking saga issues.Went to set up the sag last night and the bike was way to stiff for my puny 160lbs..had to remove a load of preload front and rear and backed out the compression a little (these where from the stock settings)and this was just to get some where close to track sag settings not street?..
With the tightened up headbearings and more compilent suspension the bike is totally different...155mph and no headhake...I have to say I'm very happy with the bike now....and wow that engine is just awesome gotta to love that power..Thanks to all for the advice...
Its just my 2 cents worth but if you have headshake woes? check your headbearings first and then try to set up the sag on your bike...I'm sure there are lots of you riding out there with way to stiff suspension........Thanks for all the help..Steve....now I'm looking forward to turning this in to a bike to suit my riding needs...

if you read the magazine article with Doug Chandler, they too softened the bike up to remove the headshake. The track pro from Willow had no damper and had slicks on the bike. They mentioned that having the suspension set up was key to this bike not headshaking.

wobbly wobbly

I have a 07 zx10r, and just had a power commander installed as well as a high end sprocket and front tire. Now it seems once i get up to between 130 and 150 it wants to wobble. Before i had her up to 170 and she was smooth. can somebody tell what the hell is goin on? i took it back to the guy that installed it all and he said put a hundred miles on it and then see if it still does it. he said that the tire just needed to get road worn...so is it that or something else....?
