Fasta, the more I hear about your bike the scarier it gets. The description you give sounds like tight valves or the cams are falling out of time. Something like the tensioner is falling off.
Let me say this one more time. There should be no variation in RPM vs MPH period. For example if a bike will do 30 in second at 3000 RPM, 40 in second at 4000 and 120 at 12000 (this is how a ZX12 is geared) it will not change riding double, uphill, downhill, cold, hot, upside down, sideways, full throttle, half throttle, etc. The only way it can vary is when the clutch is slipping.

I saw 173 MPH on the speedo in 5th gear this weekend. Actual speed should be somewhere around 160mph. But it was still pulling, but not hard. I am -1 in the front so add a few MPH for stock gearing, and any power improvements you might have....

changing numbers according to my GPS woudl put it in the neighborhood of 161MPH.....
Will look when I get home the GPS keeps the top speed and that was the fastest speed run I have done in a while, so it will still be there....

Just a quick update:
On Monday I took my bike in to the dealership and asked them to investigate 3 main things:
- The engine was sucking air somewhere, that's why it sounded like a tractor. They have traced this to the air box and resolved.
- Some vibration that I started picking up after they sorted out the alternator load balancer thingy the last time the bike was with them. This turned out to be springs on the clutch that were not properly seated - they have sent the clutch off to Kawasaki to have a look. ???
- I've asked them to check that the clutch is not slipping - according to them it is not.
Since the clutch has been sent off to Kawasaki my baby is likely to be in the workshop for at least a week or two...I'll report when I have her back.

if they sent the old clutch out to KHI, then they better be putting a new one in it......my ZX10 WILL NEVER si t in a shop for that long.....badd things happen. I have heard too many horror stories about people tearing shit up and riding bikes and even doing burnouts on a bike......only 2 places mine sits over night.....my Garage, or Rogers garage. If its something I cant fix it goes to him......unless its going to be a warranty fix, then I am at the dealer ship everyday until i get it back....
I have a pretty good dealership, first name basis with the service manager, but even still he cant see all of his employees all the time.......JMO
