It's basically a "Dual Stage" Bolt-On. Very similar to the Honda 954. The mufflers bolt-on after the S-bends, but they also bolt-on under the engine after the headpipes. We use to call these "Half-Systems". You could purchase a bolt-on muffler, or you could purchase the half system that bolted on at the collector junction and essentially converted your muffler then to a conventional "Slip-On". Understand?

Yep, got it thanks. I wouldn't have thought about fitting a half-system with a slip-on muffler though.

I think I will just hold onto my Black 04/05 till the 07 model comes out, believe it or not this new bike ( 06 ) is just an interim model and the real deal comes out in 07 and is a totally new model again!

Not sure just exactly what is behind this could be the new trick Honda full of RC2V11 bits and pieces due out very soon along with a very WSB spec R1 upgrade model, no details yet on this but it appears that Kawi have a major program in place to regain their former glory in racing circles.

This can only be good for all of us I would love to see team Green up the front again where they belong, word is the new 12R + sum will be well worth the wait just wish I was 20 years younger!

I'm reading a lot of complaints about the size of the exhaust. When you look at them, they don't look any larger than the ones on the R1. The heat shields is polished and attracts a lot of attention. The R1 has shields in the same location but they are a subdued color..attracting a lot less attention to them.

The R1 did a better looking job IMO. However, if replacing the exhaust with afterrmarket anyway what does it matter?

It is also one of those things that my guess is, could well give a quite different impression in reality than it does from a picture.

I wish they would not have gone to the undertail exhaust! Every bend of the pipe loses power. The big hole in the bottom sucks too

The good news about the "hole in the bottom" is that in real life, the bike will almost never be viewed from these camera angles, inches off the ground.

From eye level, whether standing, riding, sitting down, or sitting in a car, my bet is that it's not going to be very obvious at all.

That's a good pt. For some reason the wheel base looks shorter too.

I do like the ohlins steering damper. I saw one on a guys bike at Mid-Ohio. I am planning to buy one for my 04, 10R. I really like the fit of the Ohlins.

There is a new " tight fit " chambered muffler available for cars . I'm not one to " rig " a bike but it might be this 06 model will be able to have the lowest cost aftermarket conversion ever . It would be belly pan though . The muffler is 60 bucks , just need a flange and outlet tip . It's pretty light too plus could tune a bit with lenght of pipe after the collector since the muffler is so small . I'll find it and post a pic . Many inlet diameters available .

Wonder why they chose to go with dual exhaust? same for the R1 The litre bikes being so competive the weight advantage of a single exhaust surely would be a plus. Only thing i can think is to help one feel better after dishing out the $$$ for an aftermarket pipe. Good looking bike still.

Dual mufflers are because of noise limits. You need the volume to get pass the limits and make many HP:s.

Or you need the volume to deal with all the 90' angles you just introduced into the system

I don't see what the big deal is about the mufflers? Who here keeps the stock pipes on their bikes? If it's that big a deal change them out. Who cares about looks anyways? Are we not sportbike riders? If image is such priority but a Harley.

Power loss from 2 or so bends more than last years sytem? Crist! Near 160hp at the rear wheel isn't enough that the lack of 2 or 3 is a deal breaker?

Picky picky picky, whatever happened to the rider being the most important part? Nevermind 3 damn hp from the stock exhaust. Who cares about a few lbs?

Evidently a few of us....but thats the beauty of having an opinion. Were all different, finding the perfect bike that we all agree on will be the death or demise of these iternet message boards? if we can't disagree what good is a message board

The '06 ZX10 seems to be one of those situations where the whole is greater than the sum of all of the parts. If you take a lot of stuff on face value, like Kawasaki saying they kept the power of the '04/'05 while meeting tighter emission regs. And given the fact that it is heavier. And they reduced the intake valve diameter by 1 mm. All of these things would tend to make me think it might be slower. But all of the early dyno runs and test drives are pointing in the direction of it actually being faster and having more HP and torque. Hmmmmm.

By the way, the headlights remind me of the ZX7R on drugs.

Yes Pat (motoman) knows about those ports. When the zx10 was released he called me to tell me that.

Dont worry about the valve size, the importance is the relation of the size-port thing. and those ports look very nice to me.
think as the port as a hall and the valve as the door.

He spend 11 days at my house here in DR, and smaller ports are the tip of the iceberg, there is a lot of tricks that in the future we will have in this engines.
