I finally got a 10R

Well the beans has finally added a second motorcycle to the official collection, but its not in driveable form so I have two motorcycles down at the moment.

As the 12 still sits in the shop waiting for the approved Kawi work to rebuild my engine ($5500+ wow!), I have been riding many motorcycles, all from friends who have been kind enough to allow me to get my riding fix on more than one occassion.

A college buddy flew in from New Mexico to pick up a new 2005 ZX-10R here in Washington since the regional price was cheaper, and he picked it up, put 500 miles on it, did the first service, and took off to New Mexico.

200 miles into his trip, he realized he was losing air in the front tire and somehow picked up something that gave him a flat tire. I drove down to Oregon to rescue him and bring him back to WA with 10R in tow.

Since I buy tons of tires for my 12, the front matched and I said I would sell him a front tire, put it on, and deliver the 10R to him where he was staying at in Pullman. I swapped the tire (which suprisingly was the first tire I have ever seen that balanced perfectly - no weights required), called him and said I'd like to ride that 10R. Pullman is 72 miles away, but I put 350 miles on to get there and deliver the bike to him.

I have riden the 10R many times, but this was my first long trip on one, and I loved it. I delievered it to him in perfect mint condition, he was ready to head off to New Mexico and his brother asked to ride it one quick time before he took off.

Ten minutes later, he called me from the side of the road saying to come get him and the bike before the police do. He highsided the motorcycle at 20mph, totalled the bike, and he was in real bad shape. I'll skip the details of the wreck...

The guy that bought it was rich and turned around and bought another brand new 10R and took off to New Mexico. I ended up buying the 10R with 1080 miles on it.

So now it is my new winter project. The frame took a dent to it, but the dealer inspected it yesterday for me and said the frame was fine, the perimeter of the frame looks good, said just replace the broken parts, fill the fluids back up, and it's good to go.

Here is the great deal about it...I have the original Kawasaki MSO in hand, along with a notorazied release of liability and all interest in the bike to me, so the VIN is still clean and no state patrol inspection is required. I just go pay taxes and I receive a license plate and will show as the first registered owner with a clean title, clean VIN, and full equity in the bike once I get it back to pre-accident status.

I am debating making the 10R a full-out track bike or doing a street rebuild.

Beans, you know I am a 12 lover. But after riding the 10 almost daily, there is no way I could go back. The only thing I miss is the fuel guage. Other than that this bike is a hoot.

God damn, I've been thinking of 10's for a while now......
i know if I ever rode one, I'd buy it. My 12's been so good to me since new, even though she tried to kill me once! Hate to give her up, but that's what us poor boys gotta do.
