Trying to get a group price on Elf Oil for members..

I've spent some time trying to organize a group, or "bulk" purchase of oil from Elf motor oils...

Not entirely sure how the specifics would work out, so I'm going to ask everyone out there if they would be interested in this (seriously) as it will take a whole bunch of time on my part to get it rolling full swing.

My idea is this.. Elf oils are now available in North America. They are part of "Total".. one of the largest oil producers in the world. Total and Elf together supply the blends that Motul and other oils use to make their products, so in essence you are buying Elf one way or another. Elf also supplies MotoGP with it's race fuel.

Since we have some friends and members of this site who work for Elf, and Elf's North American distribution network isnt entirely in place yet.. We were thinking it would be cool to get some of their top of the line products into the hands of the membership. They have a full line of high end synthetics and race oils, as well as other products.

I was thinking about doing a pre-order on oils etc, and shipping quarterly? .. This would give members enough time to order what they needed, and enough time for me to get it shipped to everyone...

If we can get something going, hopefully we can secure a good price/discount for members, and keep the supply and pricing in place even when the products are fully and readily available at the dealer level.

Here is a link to their site with a list of their product line... http://www.elfmoto.com/moto/elfmoto.php

Can members list what oil(s) they would be interested in buying?

Thoughts on this? It's a bunch of work, but it could get some Formula 1 grade oils into our hands and more importantly.. into our bikes...

I'm mirroring this topic into the 10R, 12R, Sportbike and Dragbike sections...

There could well be something of a real interest here, and surely not a bad oil, but there's nothing on that site or in other material that most of us have read, if any have read, that gets the excitement going for Elf oil.

Literally all that site says is,
quote:
ELF SPORT 4 CAMPIONE

New 100% synthetic lubricant for 4-stroke racing vehicles. A leading product with a very high-tech formulation giving superior performance. Formulated for Championship Racing.

Racing approved SAE 10W60

That is ALL.

There is also the opportunity to click for the spec sheet, but all you get is a form asking your name and address, etc...

That's all, folks!

I'm not saying this to be hard, but, Elf has got a long way to go to "sell" people on their product, and their website as is, is maybe taking one half of one baby-step in that direction. It's hard to see a lot of minds already being changed and wanting the product from the tiny information the site provides -- regardless of what merit there may be!

They just have not provided the information!

If this is something I need, I will help out with the group buy. But when I spoke to XL on the phone, he said the fully synthetic Red Line I was using wasnt really needed in my 12 based on how often I change my oil and overall recommendations for my clutch.

So I ask XL...do I need this stuff for my 12?

Like I said.. they are just getting up and running in North America.. II'll see if I can find a link to more info on their product line.. I thought there was more there than that..

As I mentioned, in Europe Elf motor oils are very well known... one of the largest manufacturers in the world.. they're only just moving into the North American market.

this is going to take some time, but the benefits to the membershipcould be enormous...

What the hell does XL know about clutches? If he has clue one I say he proves up by telling us about the trick of cutting off some of the fingers on the 10R's torque limiter springs to make it work better.

Sounds cool to me Fish - you guys have ALWAYS given the best advice on my bike . HEll I wouldn't even know about other oils like Motul if it wasn't for Mr. Hill . I'm up for some Elf oil. My 2000 lady has about 13,000 miles on her and she's about ready for some!

Appreciatte the thoughts! I think the freight might kill the advantages though.
If thier was a way for members to get the discount through say a special discount coupon or rebate from thier local shops which in turn they send to ELF like any other coupon I beleive retailers than get their cut. IMHO the shops should buy into the idea, they would likely sell an oil filter or other items etc. The coupon would be a way of measuring the feedback. Might turn out to be more of pain to go that route just my 2cents.

I'm curious as to what base stock Elf uses in their synthetics. Motul uses Group V base stock which is the best out there. Mobil uses Group IV and I think Amsoil uses a mixture of Group IV and V base stock. I've read up on some of this as some of my MC/car buddies brought up what a quality oil is. Then the topic of the lawsuit Mobil filed against Castrol concerning their use of the term fully synthetic. Castrol's Syntec uses Group III base stock which is derived from regular dino oil via a process called hydrocracking. Mobil lost the lawsuit but funny enough Amsoil uses this lawsuit and the particulars filed in their advertisements that not all synthetics are created equal.

I paid almost 8 bucks a quart for that Mobil and the way the bike shifts with that stuff I would have paid 10! IF you can get a deal and the ELF is close in quality and I can help the board sign me up for the quarterly ( maybe half year) purchase.

Elf claims higher quality, an states that they supply Motul and others who blend and rebadge the Elf product.

How about bringing in 45 gallon drums and fiting a hand pump. Set it up in some one garage.
