Snap-On is defintely the schiznit.

I've got a veritable plethora of tools of different mfg's. No junk.

I even have some Stahlwille tools. German made. Good shit.

Ya gotta love good tools. :-)

I have a few Stahlwille tools, very nice tools. There used to be a dealer here, but no longer.

We thought we solved the problem of tools not being where they should be. I have my set and he has his set, I have my side of the garage and he has his, should be just fine don't you think??? Wrong, I am always having to search his tools to find my missing ones. I would love to have all Snap on, have a few but mostly Craftsman as per Freek, when I win the lottery this will change, in the meantime I will settle for a couple each year in my stocking (maybe if I am a good girl Santa will leave me extra this year???)

Ah yes the pendulum swings both ways.
As far as what Snap-ons to have without mortgaging the house. I would think the place to start (for working on motorcycles) is a Snap-on 3/8 ratchet (get one with a handle) and then start building a set of metric deep sockets. 8-19mm. Just buy them one at a time, Get the 10mm, then the 12 then the 14, 17, 19 then fill in the blanks. Then screwdrivers, and by that time you will be an addict (no turning back from there) and then wrenches, cabinet. The good part is you don't have to run down a truck, Just order them over the Internet, delivered to your door.

But at the end of the day, Craftsman or Harbor Freight tools can for the most part get the job done too.

After reading all the tool posts, I think I have a little better understanding as to why/how someone would spend $100 on a single ratchet from Snap On, when even the $40 ratchet from Craftsman seems a tad high priced to me. You guys who rely on these tools to make a damn good living, can justify the cost.

However, for someone like myself and others who just work on their own stuff, junk around the house and the occasional project, the Craftsman, Stanley, Harbor Freight tools get the job done fine.... and to think I splurged $500 on the scratch and dent Craftsman tool chest 6 months ago, lol.

Tolerances just seem better on bolt/nut heads

I'd think that unless every single bolt head ever machined or manufactured was held to the same kind of tolerances, then this indeed jusut SEEM better.

In my experience, the only drawback to the cheaper tools is the ridicule from the tool snobs

Doug, one day I plan on having a genuine need for a set of Cleco pliers

Matt, I was really impressed as to how easy it makes socket selection.

Yeah, plus how easy it is to put them back in place. I'd always end up throwing a socket back in the drawer and fishing for it later, lol.

I noticed SnapOn sells them on their site (or atleast something exactly like them) for about 90% more than what you can get them for online or at Sears.

That's wierd, ususally Snap-on doesn't mark up other peooples brands too much. I got mine at Sears and they were pretty pricy.

Yep, I went to Sear's and checked the price of the socket holders. $12.95. Snap-on $17.95. That is a pretty big mark up.
