zx6r or zx10r

Right well heres the scoop, i'm a new rider looking in the market for a bike and green is my favorite color. Well fancy that there are two bad ass sportbikes out, IN GREEN, that i have my eye on. Zx6r and the zx10r. Personally my fav is the 10r but i've been getting some feed back saying thats not the way to go for starting out. Now just here me out, i know the 10r is a beast of a bike and will kill anyone that doesn't know what they're doing, but i do have some self control ( at least i think i do) and was wondering if maybe i treat it right and start off a slow pace until i know what im doing, if i could start of with a 10r? Keep in mind that i will have taken a street riding and racing school buy the time i buy one of these bad boys ( wich will be in 2007) I was just hoping to get some feed back from all you experienced riders that have been arround the block and have taken some spills and all that jazz if i should go with a 10, a 636 or something totally different. Don't know a whole lot about the 6r, other then specs and all the shit, haven't herd anyone whos riden yet, most of my focus is on the ten. So guys, what should i do?

I'll try not to be too much of a drama queen, but buying a 10R as a first bike would be a gauranteed trip to the hospital and possibly the morgue. I've been riding like a hooligan for almost 15 years and I'm a little put-off by how quick the 10R wants to kick my ass. Riding school ain't gonna help you one lick with one of those things.

Seriously, starting out on a 10R (or any other new liter bike) would be the most foolish decision of your life.

When somebody asks a naive question with a blatantly obvious answer, or makes a claim that is obviously false, to elicit an eaggerated emotional response on purpose, it's refered to as 'fishing' - fishing for someone to respond to a ridiculous question/claim to start an argument. Kinda like the Phil Hendrie show, only typed.

im not trying to start an argument, just trying to find out some info about a couple of bike from people who have riding them. I only know what i know about the 10r is from what i've read and the people i've talked to at the dealerships, some say i'd be fine to start off with it, some don't. The racing schools shouldn't change anyones responce and i should of left that out, now reading it over it does sound naive, my bad :P

Go pick up a late nineties model 6R for half or less of the price of a new 6R and learn on that! When you crash you wont be as upset, and when you can really ride it then upgrade. The 600cc bikes out now are better than the 1000cc bikes of 10 years ago and the 1000cc bikes are insane. Learn your skills, take all the instruction you can and have fun. Welcome to the forum! don't be afraid to ask us questions, we've all been in your shoes before!

Do not but the 90's6R model - unless you have to.

The new 2005 - is a fun bike, with lots of room for you to grow into as you learn.

My first bike was an older Katana 600.
The clutch was looped.
The brakes were fucked.
It broke down on my first long ride.
It was top heavy.

But, I didn't know better and I thought that was how bikes were.

Most of my learning was spent learning how to ride a crappy bike.

If you can afford a new bike, I would buy a new one that hasn't been messed over by the last three of four owners who used it to 'learn' on.

I would NEVER tell anyone to buy anything bigger than a 600 for the first 3-4 years of riding.
