RODE A 2005 GSXR1000R.

Just figured I'd give my feedback on what I thought of the latest & greatest Gixxer from a ZX10R owners' unbiased opinion. 1st impression was SMALL. The bike feels smaller than my wife's 05 ZX636R. I stand 6'2" & weigh 230lb. the GSXR was definitely not designed with large people in mind, my knees were splayed out, not fitting into the niche of the gas tank which was alittle uncomfortable. When you get moving on this bike, you feel like your sitting in the bike as opposed to sitting on it which was a good thing. The handling is very light feeling & quick. This bike feels easier to get planted in the turns than my ZX10. Again, when I hit the turns it felt more like a 600. Brakes were good but, not as good as my 10's (although I have S.S. lines , EBC HH pads & Galfer rotors) so that may not be a fair comparison. I also want to say that I ran the GSXR on a nicely paved & smooth piece of road so I didn't get a wide range of handling & suspension charactoristics to judge. As far as power, I was not impressed with the motor under 8K (this is also alittle hard to compare my 10 has a full EVO II pipe , Race BMC , PCIII USB & Dyno Tuned). But, when I broke that level this motor hit & it hit hard. I can say that this bike is at least as powerful as my 10, when I ran it at the limit it still retained its composure, which was a little different than the 10. My 10 seems alittle more volatile at full steam. When all was said & done my ZX10R has a better powerband with more power below that 8k range & equal on top. The GSXR does feel to be a bit more composed in the handling department. Though, my ride was a short one, I did not feel the need to put my ZX10R up for sale & go to a Suzook dealer. I'am Looking forward to running one head to head with my 10 & seeing how that turns out.
For the record this GSXR was owned by my wife's coworker, he knew I owned a ZX10 and when I showed up at her work he threw me the keys & told me to give him an opinion of what I thought of it.

Yea, like I said, the seating position is small & tight for someone my size but, it's got to be great for someone under say 5'10". You feel like you're sitting considerably lower on the GSXR than the ZX10R. The handling is quite a bit lighter & that more than anything else was what I thought to be an improvement over the ZX10R. Now, looking back I never thought the ZX10R was a heavy steering bike, to the contrary I thought it to be the most nimble I have ever ridden, until I rode my wife's "05" ZX636R & the "05"GSXR1000R.

The difference could be nothing more than tires. I went to Michelin Powers and mine seem much lighter steering.

I have Pilot Powers on my 10R for the last several months & they made a tremendous difference. The GSXR was on stock rubber.I don't you to think I'm jumping on the GSXR bandwagon. Just calling it the way it is. I'm looking forward to coming across a K5 while on my 10R & let the chips fall where they may. I will let you guys know how that turns out as well.
