BMC Filters?
I just had my 05 ZX10R Dynoed and with all the goodies Acro 2 PM3 etc etc etc on it including a 520 chain/sproket setup she dynoed at 163+ but I've heard tha you are better off with stock air filter than say a BMC. Anyone know the real answer as when I look at the BMC it seems so much less restrictive?!??

That's a good number.
I just changed back to the stock filter from the BMC Race version. It just lets too much debris past for street use. I haven't tried the "street" version and/or seen one. But the BMC Race version is very thin. Even when you oil it up decently, the intake suction pretty much sucks it dry fairly fast. Less restriction doesn't always equate to more power. Sometimes it can be just like exhaust, where in some cases, back-pressure (or more) will make more power on a given engine. Everything needs to work in unision. It may require more mods or remapping to take advantage of less restriction in the intake. Air pressure in the box probably comes into play as well.
I'm going to dyno them back to back hopefully in the next few weeks for an accurate answer and I'll post them here. I know other dyno operators who've said on the 10, they make no difference. I know on a 929/954 that I did testing on, they lost power (K&N). On my 12, they made 1 hp and 2 tq (and I was really surprised at that).

Hey thanks there k bryant! Look forward to your evaluations.....................too bad we can replicate the effects of ram air on the dyno properly.

I'm guessing you will see a mid-range dip in the dyno test.

hey k bryant could you also do a dyno run with the exhaust valve unhooked and connected?
I'v never seen a post on that with a print out posted on bikeland or any other board.

I would be happy if the BMCs breathed evenly with a new stocker. At least you can clean them. Paper just clogs up too fast, and moisture will make the fibers swell. And if the BMC breathes better, when it gets dirty it will even out. I think I am going to try one. One thing I have noticed about the 10, there is not near the intake noise that it had when it was new. That could be because the engine is looser and I am using less throttle at any given speed. Also I live at altitude and more air is usually a good thing up here.
I am also curious about the exhaust valve. I am wondering if it might be sensitive to adjustment. Maybe biased a bit further open??
